Bickering doesn't bother me; I lost interest for other reasons: all the discs that are nothing more than warmed-over PCM, the lack of flexibility of SACD players when it comes to adjusting sweet spot in multi-channel. Too many lukewarm conductors and regional orchestras who can't compete with the big boys of the past, and the sad realization that by the time SACD repertoire matches breadth and depth of LP/CD era--especially Lp era--I'll be shoving my morning toast in the SACD player, and SACDs in the toaster....
Thankfully, I was on vacation when this thread was initiated and catching up with some of the rigamaroll was amusing, to say the least.
Caught jdaniel's post and although I agree with the paucity of titles and the fact that it will NEVER catch up with LP and even RBCD, I thought he was too harsh on the "lukewarm" conductors and "regional" orchestras which do find their way onto SACD.
As for adjusting the "sweet" spot via the SACD player for mch listening.......I didn't realize that was a function of the player per se but of the pre/pro and speaker placement....and of course the listening position (jdaniel.....have you tried room enhancers......they really, really work)!
Does a turntable allow such luxuries?
Anyway, without further quibbling.........I think everyone got the message regarding incivility and rambling threads and without brownnosing......let me just add that there are many many more pros than cons when assessing the multifaceted benefits of Zeus' SA~CD.net.

...the whining and complaining in this thread seem to be a popular pastime for some.
I'm not so sure that is the right interpretation. Heated debate of the merits of discs, equipment or recording techniques are not really "whining and complaining" are they?
What is important is that people are prepared to be flexible in their thinking, accept when they might be wrong or misinformed as well as when they are right and be prepared to learn from others.
Personal criticism and abuse is never acceptable and is never condoned by the vast majority of posters who are here to share and to learn and frankly just to enjoy the companionship of fellow travellers.
Expressions of concern over the state of this website should not be judged negatively. If people didn't care they wouldn't post.
Let's pick the positives from all posts and try always to be constructive, at heart we are all on the same side against the evil forces of the uncaring moguls of the computer industry who will sweep us aside in the blink of an algorithm.

Sure but they still sound more like real instruments and real music as opposed to morse code!

Strange you still have interest in vinyl since most new LPs are nothing more than warmed-over PCM, and old LPs are nothing more than warmed over tapes (which are colored to begin with).
"still have interest...." odd thing to say. I still have interest in the best performances. I know companies like Esoteric is taking great pains to re-release "great performances," (hit and miss, of course), but talk about great pain when the exact Lp can be had for .99 cents! I was *so* enthusiastic about SACD, but...
With regard to Lp's being warmed-over tapes, the point is...Lp's never **claimed** to be anything more.

Nope. SACDs sourced from analog tape can't hold a candle against new DSD recordings. http://audaud.com/2010/02/ravel-daphnis-et-chloe-complete-ballet-music-boston-symphony-orchestratanglewood-festival-chorusjames-levine-bso-classics/
"Now comes James Levine, the current BSO Music Director, and a live recording made in Boston’s Symphony Hall in October of 2007 by the engineers of Boston’s sound/mirror. They did a fantastic job – while all three of the BSO hi-res Daphnis recordings are excellent, this one bests the two previous in many different areas. If pushed to do so, I might summarize their sonics as the 1955 version being a Technicolor film in standard 4:3 format, the 1961 as Cinemascope, and this new SACD as hi-def digital video in 3D!"

Well, there's objective and subjective, so I guess I drink the Lp snake-oil gladly.

Boy, looking at the above posts reveals a definite lack of discipline regarding thread integrity.

I would like to chime in here. Although I have not been a frequent poster lately, I really surf and use this site daily. I would hate to see the forum go away as its been a great source of information for me over the years.
Zeus, I hope you will keep this open but perhaps be more strict on moderation to eliminate those who take away from the discussion.
Thanks also for all the hard work you put into this site. It's the best SACD resource by far!! on the web.
