I just purchased this disc from Amazon, who advertise it as an SACD. However, the disc case doesn't mention SACD, only CD. In small print on the Amazon listing, it reads: "CD-R Note: This product is manufactured on demand when ordered from Amazon.com." Just noticed this note, of course.
I don't find it listed at sa-cd.net.
Sony Music's website doesn't have any search capability that I could find. But, it's on their Legacy label. That label's website has a search, but it claims they have nothing w/ "Volodos" or "Schubert."
Can anyone tell me if this is an SACD before I unwrap it?
Thanks, Doug

Ah. The different cover threw me off. Thanks. But, I'm still not sure the disc I bought isn't just a CD.

It was an SACD, my guess is that you bought a reissued redbook version...

Could be a recycled barcode. The original was 0696998964761. It's a great disc!

When one clicks on the link to Amazon.com from Schubert: Piano Sonatas - Volodos
The description does say: Schubert: Solo Piano Works [Super Audio CD - DSD]
CD-R Note: This product is manufactured on demand when ordered from Amazon.com.
"Through manufacturing on demand, CreateSpace, part of the Amazon.com group of companies, enables Amazon.com to offer music and video content that might not otherwise be available."

If its a CD-R its not SACD because SACD uses DVD disc.
Hybrid: Hybrid SACDs are encoded with a 4.7 GB DSD layer (also known as the HD layer), as well as a PCM (Red Book) audio layer readable by most conventional Compact Disc players.[3]
Single-layer: A DVD-5 encoded with one 4.7 GB DSD layer. Single-layer SACDs are not backward-compatible with conventional CD players.
Dual-layer: A DVD-9 encoded with two DSD layers, totaling 8.5 GB, and no PCM layer. Dual-layer SACDs can store nearly twice as much data as a single-layer SACD. Like single-layer SACDs, dual-layer discs are not backward-compatible with conventional CD players.
We all know CDs are hold only 700 megs of info.

Does it say DSD anywhere on the back at the bottom? That is often the only way of knowing it's a SACD until you play it.
Otherwise, just return it and re-order the SACD version.
This was a problem in the 'old days' when companies ran double inventory and you could never be confident that you were hooked up to the SACD version. Thankfully they don't do that very often now.

My conclusion is that the SACD is now OOP. It is only available from Marketplace sellers, and the "in print" edition at Amazon.com is a CD-R. Amazon.com reused the SACD page for the CD-R, for whatever reason.
As it's a single layer SACD, there is a CD too, listed seperately on Amazon, as B00005Y1N1 (the SACD/CD-R is B00005V6R5)
I think there is still a good chance of getting the SACD from a Marketplace seller, because this disc isn't rare.

What Claude said.
There are two things wrong:
FIRST, Amazon has mistakenly advertised their CD-R copy (which is obviously a CD, not a SACD) on the SACD page:
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00005V6R5
... whereas the CD-R product actually belongs on the CD page:
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00005Y1N1
SECOND, the front cover picture on the SACD page is now also incorrect.
If Amazon has sent you the wrong product (which they obviously have), just send them an email ... they will probably let you keep it for free, and send you another incorrect one. Then you can tell them they sent that incorrectly too, and they will send you another one. And so on. Then open a Volodos shop.
P.S. Zeus, please feel free to append whatever tags you like to the above URLs.
P.P.S. Before buying from any marketplace seller, I'd email them first to make sure they actually have the SACD version. The small ones will check for you, and the large ones will not.
