Anyone know how Warner/Erato convert from analogue to SACD? Pure direct to DSD .... or via PCM?

Ooh. The Richter Mozart is one of my faves. Would be nice to know how exactly they've been produced.

According to CDJapan, they're 24/96 PCM transfers.
They don't appear to be new masters.. I mean if they were just remastered for this series, they would be DSD or 24/192.
A number of Teldec and Erato titles were released on DVD-A in 2001.. these masterings may have something to do with those releases.. I don't know.

Some mastering engineers still work with 24/96 (sometimes even 24/48). The recent EMI SACDs were mastered in 24/96.

So this is no proof that these aren't new remasters. It's possible that the tapes remained in Europe and that Warner Japan was sent 24/96 copies.

You may be correct Claude, I was only speculating. I can't find DVD-A versions of the albums, which I want; Brüggen/Blockflötenwerke Des Barock Vol.1" and Terebesi/Paganini: Violine & Gitarre, Vol. 1"

Regardless, I'm sure they're going to be top notch, and I'm looking forward to their release.

Interesting to note though, according to Eastwind Imports, the two Coltrane Warner SHM-SACDs I have are 24/192 PCM transfers.

I had a few Teldec baroque DMM Lps in the early 80s, and I remember the sound quality was quite impressive.

Would love to see Lorin Maazel's Carmen as well - I'd jump at that.
