Does this mean they are re-doing them properly this time, as direct pure DSD transfers, instead of the messy method they used to use? Cool.

They are redoing the transfers with the Grimm converter after learning from this forum that PCM is inferior.

In 2013, after another wave of complaints on sa-cd.net, they will redo the quad titles in multichannel.

While there are undoubtedly some truly great performances and recordings among this batch too. For those who don't feel like paying 50 dollars per disc, or like me lucky bastard, don't already have most of these already on LPs,FYI some of them are ALREADY available as hi res downloads from HD Tracks at slightly lower price 15-18 dollars each, instead of these Japanese bargains. They are the same recordings, the only difference being that the analogue to digital transfer only involves one step analogue to 24/96 pcm.
And the few recordings that were done in 4 channel surround will most probably, only be released in stereo anyway on SA-CD.
Both Karajan's Tchaikovsky symfonies and the Dvorak/Moldau disc where "SQ" releases on LPs.
For those who need an antidote against the dessicated, freeze dried,no vibrato ,thin soup, undernourished HIP Beethoven of today, other than as here "old Klemperer" there is also a brand new set from Barenboim Beethoven for All. All Nine for 35 Dollars or 29 € in native 24/96 hi res and very good ,silky warm airy DECCA hi res SQ.
Barenboim is at times almost as slow and heavy, as Klemperer but also with that wonderful sense of steady PULSE and "lyrical Flow" and weight in the bass,so often completely missed by the stacatto/ almost everything forte sforzato irrespective of how Beethoven marked it,style HIP CAMP.
I am sure many HIPsters will get their coffe down the wrong throat both from Klemperer and Barenboim, but to me both in their own different ways, deliver an interesting approach on Beethoven's timeless masterpieces.

So they're licensing the Szell performances from Sony?

That is certainly incorrect. Because, as has been well-documented here, and confirmed by EMI themselves, they used some ridiculously convoluted process that involved about 3 A / D / A conversions before they even got to think about placing it on an SACD or anywhere else. Something to do with them re-editing it, re-mastering it, adding CEDAR noise removal which is done back in the analog stage???, then lacquer removal, soap, toothpaste and ash clean, followed by lots of spit and some de-greaser, and then finally back to 24/96 PCM ... which is the download file you refer to. At the end, I believe there is still some music left from the original.

In brief, buy a $3 CD and get more of the original. That was my experience where I had both CD and SACD. You are just wasting your money on the download (or the SACD version, in my view).

And even more so on LP than any CD IMO.
I will save my comments on how the new transfers compare to the LPs until I have actually heard some myself. But one thing is sure I am not going to dish out 50 dollars for a disc when the same can be had for much less as a download.

Paid downloads are apparently already on the way out ... market apparently shifting to streaming. Spotify / Rdio etc ... $10 per month ... 15 million titles ... all you can eat. Can't be too long until they offer hi-rez streaming.

Not for me though ... I like those sexy superjewel boxes.
