Most of the SACD world listens to classical.

What world do YOU live in, Snoop?

Acoustic Sounds is cranking out pricey vinyl.........predominantly jazz and pop and all those customers would probably be buying SACDs in multichannel if they were available.....at half the price!

In the USA, classical music has had a very steady decline (approximately 4%) and in other parts of the world 14% of the record buying population has an interest in classical.

With popular Blu~Ray pricing, it's a no~brainer to augment one's pop and jazz selections with stunning hi~def picture and 5.1 lossless sound.

Then SACD is a failure as Classical music represents 5.5% of recorded music retail sales worldwide. See http://musicandcopyright.wordpress.com/2010/08/11/pop-is-still-king-of-the-world’s-music-genres/

Once non-classical SACD sales are 94.5% of total SACD sales then we can call SACD a successful format. People cannot buy what they're not offered. Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon SACD sold over 800,000 copies by June 2004 and it's still in print! Amazon has it brand new for $14.10. I wonder how many millions it has sold by 2012. Does anyone know?

In order to attract the traditional music listeners who own SACD-capable BluRay players and complain all the best SACDs are out-of-print we need TONS of in-print POP/ROCK SACDs!

Personally I think people are buying mostly classical SACDs as those are the ones available at reasonable prices!

In the general eyes of those who follow numbers, SACD is a failure and the titles you list are just that 2 titles. In addition, your first numbers also include RBCD, downloads, etc., not just SACD. Look at the number of SACD releases put out re: pop, classical, jazz, etc. The majority of them are classical

A niche market would be a less severe assessment of SACD.

2012 has seen a renaissance of popular titles both domestic and from Japan and even though some classical releasing companies have ceased SACD production there are still a healthy dose of titles being released.

Hell, even RBCDs are steadily declining.

Me.....I'd still rather buy than download.

I'm not the person who tries to whitewash things. I don't paint rosy pictures when the numbers don't show it.

Exactly you made my points again, you're getting good at this. The Pie chart shows classical is only 5.5% of total music sales of "all formats" worldwide!

The number of SACD releases is out of balance because the majority of them are classical, that is the problem. Thus all music especially the Billboard Top 100 charts need to be released in huge quantities now while BluRay players with SACD-capability are still being sold!

The Beatles catalog is what I wish EMI would release on SACD.

"The digital files were recorded in Pro Tools at 24-bit, 192kHz through a Prism A-D converter."
http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/oct09/articles/beatlesremasters.htm

The new remasters were released as 16/44.1k CDs and a 24/44.1k USB drive. SACDs or 24/192k DVD-Audios would be most welcomed.

In the early days of SACD, MFSL and Analogue Productions were almost double the price of the major label's Pop/Rock and Jazz SACDs, now they are by far the least expensive as the major labels are releasing most of their SACDs in Japan at super high prices! This is a change that could kill SACD since most of the world listens to Pop/Rock and other non-classical music.

The problem is that most of the world does not care about good sound and are VERY HAPPY with MP3.
Classical listeners are one of the few breeds left that still sits down to listen to music, and yes we are a small percentage, but if somebody is prepared to service this minority it is great.

True - some of us just prefer music, to be honest. That SACD I bought yesterday (see above) I am listening to right now on the train home - on my iPhone after ripping it. Not sure when I'll be able to listen to the SACD layer via my Stax system.

Correct Rammiepie, as I have said before people cannot buy what they're not offered.

There are people who like MP3 that listen to all types of music including classical, as there are people who listen to all types of music who want something better.

Rock, Pop and Jazz are all big sellers on expensive 180/200 Gram LPs, they could be even bigger sellers on SACD. I believe The Beatles "Abbey Road" would sell more SACDs than all the EMI Classical SACDs released so far combined if offered at the 18.99 retail price chosen for Pink Floyd: Dark Side of the Moon.
