What's next then? 6th?
For modern version, the 6th by Czech Philharmonic/Jiri Belohlavek on Chandos is my benchmark. Tremendous sound. But I certainly will grab any 6th on SACD by the Malaysian Phil.

soft-edged articulation and a few balance issues aside, it's very good.

While I love the 6th, I'd much sooner pounce on a 4th or 5th on SACD.
Same here, I think the 5th is a superior work, but there are some VERY charming moments in the 4th and between the two, at this moment anyway, that one would be my choice - ha were I in a position to choose!

There's a good recording of the 6th on Exton with the Czech PO and Macal but not a 5th (or 4th) anywhere to be seen on SACD. So, if they did record either symphony, then the Malaysians would have the field to themselves, - depending of course on whether they were recorded after the orchestra's troubles began and so were boycotted by some of us.

If Flor and his orchestra are not going to record other than Nos. 7-9, it would be nice if they record Dvorak's all 5 Symphonic Poems(at least, those famous 4 after Erben).

Robert
We NEED a Dvorak 5th on SACD so please tell him it's a deal breaker!

I agree. I would like BIS to do all of the tone poems. Beautiful, garish compositions.

The Eight Symphony is not one of my favorites, but I am ordering it just for the Scherzo Capriccioso, an all time favorite of mine.
