This wonderful orchestra is in danger of losing its grant from the Flemish government. Please go to www.savelapetitebande.be and sign the petition.
They are, with Sigiswald Kuijken, very important in the history of the original instrument movement and have made some great SACDs.It would be a major loss to music for them to be disbanded.

Done! I'm very pleased to be able to voice a protest. The Kuijkens have provided me in their recordings many very happy hours!

They could have given more detail on their financial situation and the consequences of the loss of subsidies.
Do I like La Petite Bande - yes!
Do I wish them to receive taxpayer's money - it depends.

When you see all the nonsense that taxpayer funds are spent on, it's always nice ... indeed almost puzzling because it is so rare ... to see some small amount spent on a top notch act like La Petite Bande who actually produce superb output.
Almost all orchestras are publicly funded to some extent ... in Australia, if I remember correctly, I think the usual funding is about 50% public funding (and the rest from ticket sales, private etc) ...

Did it when I saw the petition somewhere else. Own the original recording which made the ensemble. Hope they survive and thrive.
