Holly Cole's Temptation has always been among the best of the Waits covers discs, along with John Hammond's. Nice to have on SACD, but bearing in mind its release date, I can't imagine it'll have been recorded in much more than 24/48, if that...

So ummm ... what's the difference between this and the Sony Columbia Time Out?

Presumably both are analog -> direct DSD conversions?? Is one meant to be better?

Different mastering engineer, and maybe different tape sources.

For the earlier Sony SACD, they went back to the 3-track master tape, whereas previous releases of the album used a stereo mix-down tape made from the master. Not sure which one they used here.

They call it "definitive", but the SACD is missing the multichannel mix made from the 3-track master, that is present on the Sony SACD

Dave Brubeck Quartet: Time Out

The Nat King Cole SACDs included 3-channel transfers, right? I wonder why they have decided to go with stereo only this time... no demand for multichannel?

Depends on which DSD converter they've used.

Quite recently, AP released a multichannel SACD made from the 3-track tape in their Verve reissue series.

This was mastered by George Marino, who passed away last week.

I will likely get at least one of the Holly Cole's, Don't Smoke in Bed. Will wait for reviews on Time Out as I have the Columbia SACD already.

I'm also looking forward to the Rickie Lee Jones title mentioned on AP upcoming releasess page, Traffic From Paradise.

Although Cole's Don't Smoke In Bed is great ....... IMO, Temptation or the Tom Wait's cover album is extraordinary and one of the best sounding RBCDs in my collection..........

Also wish AP would start releasing SACDs from the Pablo label.......again, some extraordinary music making, IMO! They could start with the 1982 Oscar Peterson Trio album Nigerian Marketplace (even though it's an early DDD affair).

Is this going to be the 3rd or 4th issue of Time Out on SACD? I see two currently listed but both are multichannel while I recall there was already a stereo one too.

Why oh why have these labels got their heads stuck in the sand and keep reissuing albums that have already had the SACD treatment instead of getting on with the thousands of other suited titles? I can't wait to see the 5th SACD version of 'Kind of Blue'...

7T, as you know, AP is one of those reissue labels that probably has the opinion that you've never heard Time Out in the digital format until you've heard THEIR version.......

And to admit that they're usually right is a testament to their extremely high standards.

I have the Columbia mch SACD and it does sound wonderful but could it sound better..........we'll see (or rather hear)! But it's NOT a priority with so many other wonderful SACDs being announced for future release.

As another poster mentioned.....how about Time Further Out or other Brubeck chestnuts from that period in the SACD format (other than Japanese Imports from the early days of SACD).
