Well choral fans, here ya go. The Charles Bruffy led Kansas City Choral, with members of the Phoenix Choral adding their weight, performs a group of Rene Clausen's works. He describes one of his most familiar works 'Set Me as a Seal' as 'various kinds of discussions between God and humans, both from the human aspect and from the God aspect, so a lot of variations of love, of disappointment, of anxiety, of doubt'.

During a session playback for the choir of the O vos omnes, there was hardly a dry eye in the group at the ending Ah men. The powerful performance of soprano Sarah Tannehill is breathtaking.

And with music and sound that are every bit as beautiful as the building in Tom's pictures! If there were a rating available beyond *****/***** this recording would deserve it.

If you're curious it looks like we used Neumann M50's for LCR, DPA 4006's for LS/RS, and probably Schoeps MK-2H (or 2S) for the L/R pickup. What else can I tell you?

As John (hirefox) pointed out in another thread, all of the Grammy Nominations for Best Orchestra Performance (Category 72) are SACDs. Additionally the SACD Life and Breath, released by Chandos and recorded by SoundMirror, was also nominated in Category 70 and 74 (Best Engineered Album Classical, and Best Choral Performance.

... and fully deserved. This is a breath-taking recording.

I guess my wish for 2013 would be that Sound Mirror was as active as Polyhymnia - after all there is a great wealth of top class ensemble in the US that seem to be totally inactive as far as recording goes. Pity on both counts. Maybe more push from John & Co would find a few takers?
