Has anyone else gotten this set?
I ordered this from amazon.jp upon it's release, and it arrived today. It's a nice boxed set, everything in standard jewel boxes. As usual for a Japanese release, the booklet and all notes are only in Japanese characters. As noted in an earlier post, the 5th symphony is stereo only, the others have multi-channel mixes. The recordings are the same as the cd's that RCA/BMG issued in the late 90's.
Anxious to hear something I immediately played the Fourth Symphony. It was good. I had a quick comparison to the original cd, and also to the Universal Classics Bohm recording. In stereo, the differences seemed subtle. I don't have an MC system, but perhaps the differences are more in MC.
The sacd's were apparently made with the new system Sony/BMG Japan recently acquired, as noted in a recent post here. Hopefully they are planning more releases, but as with all Japan releases, they are sure to be pricey.

It's a great set, especially the 8th. It should be noted the DVD is in German with Japanese subtitles only.

I agree it is great. My only problem with it is that I am almost unable to hear anything else since I received it two weeks ago.

Has anyone compared the 5th and 9th to the Harnoncourt recordings?

Having just finished listening to this set (once only) I think the Wand 9th is very good. For the 5th, I prefer Harnoncourt but I know this reading isn't to everyone's taste. It's great to have so much Bruckner on SA-CD to choose from!

I'm wondering if others who have purchased this set agree with Stvnhrr's finding that the differences between the SACD stereo layer and the redbook CDs are subtle ones. As I don't have a multi-channel rig, I listen to SACD in stereo only. If I am convinced that differences are merely subtle, I will probably not decide to pay the premium price for this Japan-only set.

Volund,
I've now made my way through all but the Ninth. I've found the sound to be very good on all discs so far. It matters little if the difference between cd layer and stereo layer is subtle or large, this is still a very expensive set, and a thoughtful purchase. But with the sacd set, you do get the mc layer and it will still be there in some long unforeseen day when it may be possible to listen to it. There's never this possibility with a cd.
Also, it's pretty difficult to assess the difference in cd/stereo sacd without a listen with your own ears.

As nobody seems to have a done a review of the entire set, I've added mention of the Fourth to my review of the Böhm Bruckner 4. I don't have the knowledge base to do a thorough review of the others, so presumably someone more qualified can fill the gap!
