I'm most interested in these. They are the 1960 stereo recordings, right?

Now the big question is: Are they better than the Esoteric sacd's.

Has *anyone* heard these yet (let alone compared with the Esoteric release)? The Universal releases are not in the database yet, unless there's a funky spelling like "Yivgiinyi Maveeriinski" conducts "Tschaikowvsky".

Maybe better than the Esoterics but not for 4 times the price.

Many Universal Classics SHM-SACDs are not yet in the database. I'm going to add the Respighi/Ozawa that I will receive soon.
The Universal SACDs are new DSD transfers from the analogue mastertapes (made in Germany) while the Esoteric SACDs were made from PCM transfers (the old ones from around 2003 or new ones, we don't know) "converted" to DSD via analogue (like the EMI Signature SACDs), so the new releases have a high potential of sounding better.

I compared the 4th and the 5th. The result is, what could be expected. The DSD-mastered new SHM-SACDs sound a bit better, clearer, more analogue-like timbre, more space between the instruments. But as for the high price and as the Esoteric versions do sound good, I only would recommend the SHM-versions for those, who have non of these and have some Euros or Dollars left. Especially Euros because the crisis goes on ...

A correction, or actually, an expansion on your comment. "Many [...] SACDs are not yet in the database," and aren't likely to ever appear because of SA-CD.net's unique submission process. The end result is that this site's database has become unfortunately rather baseless.

I just placed an order for these and can't wait to get them. $167 US for all three discs shipped from CD Japan. They only had one of each in stock, so presumably they don't have anymore now. These are going to go really fast, so I just coudn't pass them up. Absolute classic performances...
I almost pulled the trigger on the Esoteric release about a year ago, but I'm glad I didn't. Sounds like these are better and from the original analog masters. I no longer have the CDs to compare, but I will report in detail as soon as I have listened.

Yes, Randall, do. I have the Esoteric release and would like to know, but you have no way of comparing them really.
