Ditto.

Now if we can just get Channel to record the piano concertos along with the symphonies. That would certainly fill a big hole in the SACD catalogue.

yes, indeed! Perhaps Ivan could hook up with Zoltan Kocsis to do this, although there would be plentiful younger players apt to perform these.

And... Wouldn't it be wonderful if BIS also came out with the concertos!? 2 versions to compare and discuss... (or perhaps a heated debate ;-) Sounds great to me!

There seems to be some talk about this over on the Plowright thread. In fact, I finally picked up a copy of Brahms: Complete Piano Music 1 - Plowright. Just listening to it as I type. First impressions are very good!

oh, thanks for that. I hadn't yet noticed this release. I might pick up a copy as well, when I'm at Ludwig Beck's here in Munich.

OT. Are you interested in Martinu's music? I also picked up Martinu: Piano Quintets, Piano Quartet - Klansky, Kocian Quartet. And I can't stop playing it (and The Beatles LOVE). Really fine music making!! Krisjan's review is spot on!

P.S. I'm stuck in a typhoon. Wish I could join you for a bier at Oktoberfest. ;)

I'm not really familiar with Martinu.

Yes, I heard about the typhoon from a colleague in Tokyo. Take care!

There are very few pianists, living or dead, who're as interesting and inimitable as he is. One of the clearly most talented and individual pianists in this past century for sure, but all too few occasions to appreciate the fact.

They've recorded together before, for Philips, and Kocsis frequently works with BFO, so maybe there might be a chance. I don't think he (Kocsis) is contracted exclusively by anyone right now, either.

Another matter is if he's interested. He prefers conducting nowadays (also superb and unlike others in that role, btw), but still sits at the keyboard from time to time (the latest recording I know from him is Bartok: Sonatas for Violin & Piano Nos 1, 2; Sonata for Solo Violin - Kelemen, Kocsis). I haven't seen touring dates for him on the piano for a while.

So that's when I'd get excited about Channel again.

Hopefully, someone from Channel will suggest it to Fischer.

I know Kocsis primarily as conductor in those other stupendous Hungaroton Bartok recordings Bartok: Music for Strings, Percussion & Celesta, Divertimento - Kocsis ; Bartok: Concerto for Orchestra etc. - Zoltan Kocsis and especially Bartok: Sonatas for Violin & Piano Nos 1, 2; Sonata for Solo Violin - Kelemen, Kocsis (the one you mention I haven;t got, yet)

A Kocsis/Fischer Brahms would certainly be exciting.

In light of the recent political developments in Hungary, and of the contrary views Fischer and Kocsis hold about these developments, I wonder whether a collaboration between the two artists is likely.
