The number of standalone DACs supporting DSD is expected to increase substantially in the coming months...

How do you know this?
Or are you just in wishing mode, like always.

Wow, that really is a definitive statement. I really like the corroborative information that you provided too.

What do you care? Bummer you can't just say, "Oh that's cool, I hope this actually happens." As opposed to sounding like an arse.

Geez Matt, what got into you? I asked a legitimate question and didn't get an answer. Be careful with your language, okay!

The standalone DACs will be made mostly for DSD and high-resolution PCM downloads. My personal pick so far is the Mytek Stereo 192-DSD DAC http://mytekdigital.com/download_library/stereo192-dsd-dac_new_product_release_july_2011.pdf

Cookie Marenco of Blue Coast Records a big supporter of DSD and the new DSD-disc stereo format, has said there are many more DSD DACs coming from most high-end companies.

Thank you.

I guess I prefer multi channel. What are the odds any dac's will be multichannel and reasonably priced? What are the odds download providers will provide MC content? Oppos bdp 93 converts 192k PCM (stereo I think), so I wonder if they could do this in MC)?

John Atkinson was pretty impressed with the device too.

"This isn't PCM. A DSD bitstream is a DSD bitstream is a DSD bitstream!"

As for Cookie Marenco's test, I think it would be more fair to compare DSD playback via Meitner SACD player and his new DSD USB DAC (MA-1)

In any case, a DSD DAC shoot-out is in order IMHO, as Mytek is no longer the only player on the block. I would be most interested in camparison of Mytek 192-DSD, Chord QuteHD and Fostex HP-A8 DAC as they all support DSD and are in a similar price range.
