Does anyone know roughly how many copies of this SACD were pressed? I would have thought that as a non-hybrid disc there cannot have been too many takers for the SACD when it was initially issued.

Anything that will help explain to my dearly beloved why my copy cost *quite* as much as it did would be gratefully appreciated:-)

Fab disc though!

This is a hybrid... And I think it was quite popular, hence it sold out and hence the high prices... sorry that I cannot come up with a number though

I have it on DVD-Audio(would have preferred SACD), equally hard to come by on both formats now, no idea how many were produced for each.

My copy is SACD only - although it does have both stereo and 5.1 SACD layers. Were there hybrid copies? I have only seen references to an SACD only version (as per the sticker on the copy at the top of this page).

Ah... my mistake... I saw this in a shop once and thought I read hybrid I even checked on the details here and thought I read hybrid there. I am sorry... you seem to be right... I think the sticker fooled me.
Sorry again!

I wish I could get one of these! I had to buy the MFSL gold RBCD, instead. It sounds marvelously, so I can imagine the SACD sounds even better. Has anybody listened to both versions?

I'm interested in how the two compares as well. I will most likely pick up the gold disc, but won't shy away from the possibility of splurging on the SACD if there's more to be gained sonically.

The surround mix is stunningly brilliant.

I was fortunate enough to get mine for CDN$40 used on Canuck Audio Mart late last year.

I also have a copy of the DVD-Audio version. There is no detectable difference to my ears.

Yes, I have both versions (SACD and MFSL). Both sound very good. While the advantage of the SACD obviously is the MCh-layer, creating a very spacious listening environment with nice effects on the rears, the MFSL gives a very natural sounding stereo picture. I would not prefer one to the other in its own field.

To the original poster: I would guess that the SACD had the usual pressing of a higher four digit amount. I do not have any proof for that, though.

Thanks! Good to know. I can imagine multi channel effects probably heighten the beauty of the strings on this recording. Even in stereo they are kind of three dimensional. The engineers were very good in creating a fantastic multilayered soundscape. I never tire of this music, thought I have to admit I try to disregard the lyrics, as the are quite superficial IMO.
