I'm really looking forward to what Janowski can do in Schnittke 3, due out in February. We'll see if he can clear the bar of the pioneering Eri Klas version (RBCD) on BIS

Or Gennadi Rozhdestvensky's.

So is Pentatone going to be recording a Holst Planets soon? I wonder if they would get Charles Dutoit to do it.

The presentation and packaging of new Pentatone SACD discs is exemplary especially when most others cannot be bothered to even provide a proper Super Jewel Box but Pentatone's categorisation of a recording as premium, high etc is misleading and unhelpful and frustrates me no end.

Why not state "Recorded in DSD" or "96/24 PCM" or what have you in the recording details and forget all the vague marketing spiel about Premium Quality recording, after all most of the people who will ever buy their records or downloads already know about hi-res formats?

Surely they of all people have nothing to hide or be shameful about.

Take a leaf out of LSO Live & Mariinsky books where "Recorded in DSD" is boldly emblazoned on the rear Jewel Box cover for all to see before making a purchasing decision.

That's certainly something I had hoped to see. Also another Oregon release. And nothing listed by any of their soloists, Moser, Steinbacher, etc. I was hoping Moser might do the Elgar Concerto next. There are so many performances of Eim Heldenleben for instance, I was looking forward to different choices.

Instead of a new Dvorak cycle (Pentatone has a full cycle of the late symphonies with Kreizberg), I would have preferred Rachmaninow`s symphonies. A full cycle in DSD still is a desideratum. Why not with the Russian National? - Or Tschaikowsy, Swanlake in DSD !

I agree that more Dvorak is rather surplus to requirements, but if you must have the Rachmaninovs in DSD, Gergiev is 2/3 of the way there. Of course they're inferior to the BIS set from Singapore, both as performances and sonically, but the BIS are only PCM, since that seems to matter to you. I've never heard the DSD set on Exton. Personally I wish Pentatone would pick up where Kreizberg left off and do the three other Schmidt symphonies. That would fill a real hole in the sacd catalog.

The Exton set is very accomplished but doubts remain as to its claimed DSD credentials.
