Oh yes. My first La Boheme was on Angel. Freni, Gedda - Schippers. Berlioz, L´enfance du christ with de los Angeles, Gedda...Cluytens. One in a million. I don´t think they were quad though. Or?

But nickc..what a treasure trove!

Angel is/was the American release label for EMI recordings. I wouldn't get any hopes up.

Dear Nick C;
that list is longer than a Geoff Boycott test century. How long did you take to type it?

Thomas, I lost the Sibelius LPs long ago during some house shift. Was it honestly Davis humming on the podium? ( I only had my father's crappy Technics record player with those hundreds of reflective dots on the platter for the supposedly high tech strobe and direct drive motor. I-pod like replay, so it was hard to tell.)

Post by Edvin April 29, 2006 (246 of 1127)
It started off as an American label. But there were lots of English releases on the Angel label as well.

Well ramesh, I don´t know what you heard on those old whatsoevers. Colin Davis does make a lot of noise on the podium, always has.

hi ramesh

Looking through it more carefully you're right Steve. I think EMI released the Previn Messiaen/Turangalila, Previn Holst/Planets and Martinon Ravel/Daphnis as DVD-Audios.
At least that suggests that they were actually recorded in Quad.
And Edvin the Muti Tchaikovsky symphonies that you like are there - I remember having nos 1 and 2 years ago and liking them.

Microeconomics? For some reason I have Nicholson's text on 'Micoeconomic Theory', but when he starts up with Laplace transformations he's lost me, as I wouldn't be able to recognise a Laplace even if it fell out of outer space onto the bridge of my nose and broke wind. At least Jeffrey Sachs can write simply; even Bono can understand him, apparently.

Those EMI DVD-As all have 'Surround sound remix by…' in them, which suggests they were some form of multichannel. The interesting facet is how good those analogue tapes sound, compared to the digitally recorded Rattle Mahler DVDAs of Mahler 5 and 10. Which means if PentaTone were able to release them with DSD conversion instead of 24/48kHz PCM…
