An excellent performance and recording. Beautifully presented. I'm very impressed with the stereo mix, and for the first time ever am frustrated at not having the technology to hear the surround:

What are you waiting for? This album is spectacular in mch. An altogether enveloping experience.

Don't forget Charles White, who's one big number (disc 2) is so bad it just about ruins the set on its own. Dreadful male alto singing that should surely have been retaken (preferably by a female).

I only sampled the set and did not listen to that track. Now I have - dreadful! The shaking and wobbling completely subvert Bach's magnificent writing. I liked the brief moments with the boys' choir that I was able to hear.

I also assume these are the violin and viola duos. The Mozart ones have never been recorded on period instruments before. And they are wonderful.

Mozart duos K. 423 and 424 were recorded by Vera Beths and Jurgen Kussmal on period instruments as fillers for a disc of Grand Sessetto concertante (arr. of K. 364).

Two questions:

[1] Is this a live recording?

[2] Is a counter-tenor used in the alto arias?
