Thread: Playing SACD

I recently bought an SACD because it was cheaper than the regular release (Miles Davis "Big Fun") and am wondering if it would play on a PC-DVD player or a regular DVD player (Philips DVD-712). Will it play at all in a standard CD player? I need to find out what it would do prior to opening the package so I can still return it.

JM, that's shown on the site as single-layer only, which means it'd need a dedicated SACD player. It'd only play on an ordinary cd player if it said "Hybrid" somewhere on the cover. So, if it doesnt say hybrid, you may need to take it back for a refund. However, - why waste the opportunity. Use this as an excuse to buy an SACD player and open up a whole new world of Miles Davis listening. You won't be disappointed.

I'd sure re-think that move, man. Miles Davis sounds G-R-E-A-T on SACD--the first time I did a back to back comparision between my conventional CD of "Kind Of Blue" and the SACD version, I was blown away by how much better the SACD sounded. Made me realize I'd been listening to sonic crap for almost a decade and wasting piles of hard-earned cash doing it, too.
