I for one will never buy a single sacd from Esoteric.

The greed is what killed the sacd market from day one. If Esoteric decides to try again, good luck with them.

Am in Total (and then some) agreement. If Pentatone can master (and in multi-channel) the Quad recordings from Philips and sell them at $19.98 list in the US (and CD Universe sometimes has them on sale for $13.40), I cannot see why Teac-Esoteric is charging upwards of $70 (the US price) for a stereo remastering from the same Universal Group.

If you look at the yen prices of the single Esoteric SACDs in Japan they are on par with other Japanese labels or DG/Decca J-SACD releases - all in the 3000 yen range.

I just don't know why Esoteric USA charge almost double of the yen MSRP's. And it seems to be even worst with this Solti's Ring Cycle. Certainly, for the Solti's Ring Cycle boxset things like freight, distributor profit, exchange rate, etc. will come into play but I don't know if it justifies the ~60000 yen to $1400US difference. I guess they consider these as premium products like their gears?

$800-$900 US? I can understand. $1400US? Esoteric can keep them. I'm pretty sure it will be sold out anyway they don't need my business...

If there are other examples where Elusive Disc is selling discs at a more reasonable exchange of say $40 for a 3300 yen disc, then the Esoteric line should be about the same price. It's on Esoteric US or Elusive as to who's getting the money, then. If only HMV or Amazon Japan sold all the discs, then we'd have a choice.

FYI As I stated before the retail pricing on these Esoteric SACDs was set by Esoteric USA not Elusive Disc.

It might be a good idea to contact SA-CD.net's Zeus about linking elusivedisc's web-store to this website, joining amazon, crochet, cduniverse and jpc.

That would bring yet another very useful useful resource for users here, while adding traffic to elusivedisc.com.

You are right, we need a far greater diversity of suppliers. It's disingenuous to list a whole bunch of Amazon country operations when it is really only one company operating an internal cartel that you are dealing with - obvious if you study sourcing. Any tempting price differentials are usually mopped up by taxation and postage charges, in effect restricting buyers to the local Amazon operation.

I've tried hard to get several UK suppliers involved but invariably they say they are doing OK without such affiliations.

Arnaldo, sounds like an excellent idea...What do we need to do to make this happen? Bob Bantz

Just got my elusivedisc.com email newsletter. Pre-orders for $799. Much more reasonable!

The most appropriate first step would be to send an email to Stephen Best, AKA Zeus, at info@sa-cd.net and/or stephen@sa-cd.net.

There may be some technical hurdles along the way, but I sincerely hope it works out between elusivedisc.com and SA-CD.net. And the sooner, the better...

PS: I noticed that your site is now pricing the new Esoteric reissues at US$59.99, down from US$69.99.

Update on Esoteric Wagner SACD Box Price...

We were able to get the US retail down to a much more reasonable price $799.99 at the sacrifice of Esoteric USA and US dealer margins.

I want to make it clear that Esoteric was extremely sensitive to and helpful on this pricing issue once It was brought to their attention. Unknown to most of us products made in one country and distributed in another do not get any price support from the manufacturer based on a countries weak currency or normal business models(dealers putting pressure to have good profit margins, everyone likes to get paid). Esoteric USA did this all on their own with no support. They deserve much credit for that.

We were also able to get the price on the 4 newest single sacds down to $59.99 from $69.99...not great I know but better than nothing.

I'd like to thank all involved for bringing this price discrepancy issue to light!

Go for it guys and gals! This is a fanastic set. Bob did his best to get the USA distributor to get the price down to match England's. By the way, he also lowered the prices of the other fine Esoteric discs on his site. Thanks very much, Bob, for listening to your customers and for giving such fine service in beautiful Anderson, Indiana.
