Lee, is there any way to contact you via email or the like?
I don't know. I have a bad feeling about this -- I don't think this has anything to do with Gus Skinas, or Chad Kassem, or neccessarily even Roger Waters.
I think this has to do with record company executives; inaccessible people who we may never get an answer from. There may never be closure on this.
Gus seemed convinced this would come out. He is working with Guthrie closely so I expect that is a better source than some anonymous "insider".
It is possible a senior exec could stop it altogether but I think its likely we see this SACD. Only time will tell.
It's not really a stretch imho. We still have lots of classical releases and several jazz SACDs every month.

I hope it's not too much time... I guess for the 35th anniversary, if we see a RBCD, we know it's over.

For lack of a better thread to place this
"Pink Floyd" is working with Producer "James Guthrie" on a new re-mix and master of "The Wall" using the original Stephens 821B Tape Deck from Glenn Brown Productions to create the most authentic masters possible. The project will be synchronized using two machines and transfered from the original 2 inch masters on GBP Studios Stephens 821B using the original MagLink Synchronizer. (tech assistance by "Charlie Bolois" - Vertigo Recording Services Los Angeles).

And there has been talk to, and around, the SA Center. (really.) - last I heard the Maglink was still an issue, but some strides were made. This really might happen. And it really could be SACD. Guthrie really wants to do it. Guthrie is not 'disinterested' in SACD.
It sucks having to obfuscate what I'm saying, and downplay some things.
Have hope, is all I can say. The maddening delays on WYWH frustrate everyone involved. That one's not dead yet. Personally hoping for September.
Am meeting with Gus again tomorrow night. Will see if there's any updates.

September??? Gee, that is awfully late. Really makes you wonder what the problem is. Still I am happy that it is not dead yet.
I do hope they will release The Wall shortly after WYWH. I bet WYWH will sell loads.

I have a 5-channel DVD Audio (sorry...not a SACD) mix of WYWH that a friend in the sound business gave me. He doesn't know what the original source was, but the sonic quality is excellent and the use of the center channel and surround speakers is quite lively and imaginative. The tinny-sounding radio broadcast and music at the opening of the title song starts on the right front channel and moves to the right rear channel where it transitions to the equally tinny guitar melody of WYWH. You can hear what must be David Gilmour breathing on the right front channel just before the full-frequency recording of the acoustical guitar kicks in. The live WYWH on the Pulse DVD starts the same way...with the tinny sounds moving from the front right corner of the stage to the right rear corner of Earl's Court...ostensibly behind the audience. The high quality of the WYWH DVD Audio recording and surround mix tells me the mix from which the DVD Audio was made must have been done with Floyd's blessing. I'd like to know who did it. Alan Parsons? James Guthrie? And when was it made? When Alan Parsons did the 4-channel DSOTM mix in the mid-late 1970s, 5.1 didn't exist. The WYWH DVD Audio is a 5-channel mix. So my guess is that the WYWH surround mix is relatively new, and if someone within the Floyd family was involved, it would probably be James Guthrie.
While I can't imagine WYWH sounding any better than it does on the DVD Audio, I'd like to hear how it would sound on an "official" SACD release. The 2003 James Guthrie 5.1 mix of DSOTM has more bottom end than the Alan Parsons 1970s 4-channel mix on the DSOTM DVD Audio. On the other hand, the Parsons DSOTM surround mix is more adventurous than the Guthrie surround mix. Both are very cool. All Floyd music should be heard in multi-channel. That's the way they played it live in front of an audience, and that's the way it should be heard at home. As for The Wall, Comfortably Numb is in 5.1 in the movie, while the other tracks are in stereo. The Wall would be killer in mutli-channel.
