Hi John

Excellent review and an intriguing one, too. Where can I buy this disc in the UK? I've done a quick Google but no luck so far.

Thanks in advance.

I recently purchased the Fuga "Sibelius-Complete Organ Works" (See my comments at /showreviews/5524#6345). I live in the United States and emailed Fuga directly:

fuga@fuga.fi

Service was effcient.

The Fuga website has an English button at the bottom right of its homepage. It is a record shop which also has its own label. The Kiviniemi discs are in its OrganEra section. http://www.fuga.fi/category.php?cat=CAT00033 takes you to this in their webshop. They are indeed very efficient and helpful.
I'm sure you won't regret this - the sonics, performance and quality of the supporting booklet are stunning. I have no doubt this will be one of my Discs of the Year.
Enjoy,
John

Many thanks Robert and John. Will order a copy now.

PS: Ooh la la, he's done some Franck as well. The Ross discs from Audite are very fine so it will be interesting to compare them with Kiviniemi's.

Just had a look at the Fuga site and for some reason the discs in question aren't listed as SACDs, even though the cover artwork shows the SACD logo. Also can you guys confirm that these are two-channel as well as multi-channel recordings?

BTW there's an extraordinary YouTube video of him improvising on Waltzing Matilda at the Grand Concert Organ of Melbourne Town Hall. Gloriously OTT, but what a sound!

Recording engineer Mika Koivusalo has put up an HD youtube video of Kiviniemi playing the first track of this disc while the recording was being made. It not only gives a very good impression of the sound, but portrays the instrument and the scale of the Rouen building. An excellent taster for the disc!

John

Thanks for the heads up. Have just listened to this disc for the umpteenth time; I enjoy it more each time. It's going to be one of my picks of the year.

Mika has now added the Liszt concert etude from the recent Lakeuden Risti disc. Phenomenal playing (and recording).
