Excellent review, John. Where was this recorded? Is there organ accompaniment? Thanks!

Excuse me for jumping in, but I'd like to take advantage of the opportunity to add my words of praise for this wonderful disc.

The recording was made at Camelback Bible Church in Paradise Valley Arizona, USA. There is no organ accompaniment. The only instrumental support is from the single timpano and bass drum in the final piece "Electa" by Jean Belmont Ford (as noted in the review this adds a certain primitivistic/ancient element to the piece that is hard to describe but very effective). John's review very accurately describes the music, performance, and sound. Obviously personal reactions to the music will vary, but despite my theological aversion to certain aspects of Marian devotion I have found the music very comforting in a time of personal distress. I have only a minor correction to make to the review: Jean Belmont Ford is from Kansas City, Missouri, the home town of Charles Bruffy's other choir, the Kansas City Chorale. The KC Chorale performs with the Phoenix Chorale on three other Chandos sacds including music by Grechaninov, Rheinberger, and Frank Martin.

Hi,
Thanks for answering the question! Sorry for my confusion in following the name history and origin of Phoenix/Kansas chorales - review duly corrected. Glad to hear that others have already fallen for this disc.

This is a superb disc, one of a series of equal quality.

FYI, this disc has won the Small Ensemble Performance at the 2009 Grammy Awards.
