Good news for Richard Strauss fans. According to the HMV Japan website a complete recording of Der Rosenkavalier will be released as a 3-SACD set by the Orfeo label on October 31. Carlos Kleiber conducts the Bavarian State Opera Orchestra.

Someone say my name? This is very exciting news. I enjoy Kleiber's Beethoven 7 on Orfeo SACD. A very exciting performance. Can't wait!

Here is some additional information:
The cast includes Claire Watson (Marschallin), Brigitte Fassbaender (Octavian), Lucia Popp (Sophie) and Karl Ridderbusch (Ochs).
The live recording was made in July 1973.
The hybrid SACD contains three layers: CD stereo, SACD 2.0 and SACD 5.0.

assume the 5.0 will be artificially induced, given the date of this.

Brigitte Fassbaender and Lucia Popp were arguably the greatest Octavian-Sophie duo of them all (and that's saying something). With Kleiber and the Bavarian Radio Orchestra in the pit, and SACD sound quality, this is indeed, good news. While I will always cherish my EMI Great Recordings of the Century, "Rosenkavalier" with Christa Ludwig and Elizabeth Schwarzkopf, conducted by Herbert von Karajan, this Orfeo release is a must.
