This month's Gramophone has a wonderful letter about SACD - Format of our Time - which ends "All praise to LSO Live, Bis, Avie, Channel Classics, Linn etc for noticing which century we live in."
An interesting chat about vinyl goes on to talk about SACD.
And of the Editor's recommended CDs of the month no fewer than three are of Amercian music (one being one of the Villa-Lobos CDs I mentioned the other day, the other two Gershwin and Ives), though they're not among the two SACDs chosen: Schumann/Harnoncourt and Kreizberg's latest volume of Dvorak from Pentatone.

More touching news, I'm afraid.
Further and more careful reading between great dollops of lovely Vaughan Williams live from the Royal Albert Hall this evening, I notice the Editor in choosing Kreizberg's Dvorak 6 as one his monthly choices tells me "I didn't listen to this on SACD equipment, but even with standard kit the sound is fantastic."
Back to VW.
The VW9 was particularly splendid; this reminds me two symphonies are yet to appear in Chandos's series on SACD. Here's hoping they do.

Touching indeed ...
I can only hope that you are not taking offence at what I said on the Fanfare thread, when my remark was really directed at The Gramophone. It just seems to me that we tend to cling onto every straw we can, including every straw in that magazine's letter section, in the hope to educate and enlighten, while the editor of Gramophone and most of its contributors continue to display a rather cavalier attitude towards hi-rez formats such as SACD. The Gramophone's endorsement of low-rez downloads only reinforces my point.

Given that his boss, James Jolly, is the download evangelist for the magazine I'm not surprised he's not listened to it on SACD equipment - doing so could well cost him his job!

That's pretty sad.

I should make clear this thread's news is from the October issue - the editor's choices will appear by Monday next week. At the moment the September choices are on show.
Letters and articles don't usually make it to the website. This letter is from a Richard Wilson of Bury St Edmunds.
All good wishes

That's one thing that really annoys me about the magazine. They could easily have a section each month devoted to SACD releases played through a high quality multichannel system and let people who haven't yet "taken the plunge" form their own opinions about the possibility of buying an SACD player. Actually there used to be such a section in the magazine and I have no idea why it was discontinued. I remember there were DVD-A reviews there as well.
Why all the fuss about downloading, anyway? Where do you end up storing all the stuff? Filling up your hard drive, I suppose -- or buying another large one dedicated to the task. If you download the notes and artwork, you then have to print it all out so surely you might as well have bought the CD in the first place!! It also assumes you have a broadband Internet connection. If you don't, you can forget about the whole thing, particularly if you are downloading Linn's lossless format.

Not at all. This month's (Oct) letter is in fact a reply to last month's letter of the month which I probably quoted a while ago.
I confess I do not understand the reluctance to "push" hi-res formats. I had hoped Gramophone was beginning to see the light as players do get reviewed favourably from time to time; only last month there was quite a spread on the Oppo.
It seems the editor doesn't think it important so it's unlikely to feature highly in the scheme of things.
