Lot´s of new mix-ups. There is a SCD-777ES and SCD-XA777ES. Different animals, latter one is mch player. Former is the SCD-1 successor.
I meant to comment that DVP-9100ES is reported to be good in mch-SACDs.

Kristian,
That helps!
Now I remember from pictures in Stereophile and The Absolute Sound that the SCD 777 ES and the SCD XA 777 ES look almost identical. The price in the US, if I remember correctly for the SCD 777 ES was about 2000 USD less than that of the SCD-1.
When it came out, the multi-channel model was priced about the same as the stereo one as I recall and I thought that apart from the extra channels was pretty much the same machine, same chassis, same laser, etc. Can you cast any light on that?
Thanks, Bruce

Like to hear from the owners of Esoteric SA-10, the good, the bad and the ugly. This is a new CD/SACD stereo only disc player, at about $3500.00 it is Esoterics lowest priced entry level player.

Gigi, be aware though that all the players recommended to you on this thread are miles away in terms of sound quality and build quality from your 777 which is basically the same machine as the SCD1. You will have to decide according to the price you want to spend. If you want good price and sound quality, modding a player might be the only possiblity.
Julien's advise is very good. Modifying the older Sony's will usally give a better sound than a new player, and cost less. The downside of the older Sony's is parts availability, should parts be needed. Allen Wright is far and away the best person for advise and modification on these older Sony players.

Yes, and Allen Wright is one of the only modders that understands how better SACD is than CD! He keeps the circuit path as simple as it can be. And by the way, his tube amplifiers are some of the best you'll ever hear in the human world. Once you try there is no coming back! If you mod your 777 you won't even understand how you were able to listen to the stock version for such a long time before... If you want the best multichannel player ever, get a second hand Esoteric DV50 and have Vacuum State mod it for you. It is as good as the Meitner/Emm Labs unit, for a lot less.
