I hope the German division of Sony continues releasing interesting material, and that the Strauss/Luisi series is unaffected by this divorce.

Perhaps BMG will think again and release one more tranche of LSs, or even just the Kondrashin tapes.

Well, BMG will no longer release any music, since they sold all their music rights to Sony. Everything is in the hands of Sony Music now.

I don't think this will change anything concerning SACD releases.

I don't know what those "some European music rights" are which BMG is supposed to keep according to the article. I had understood that the objective of Bertelsmann was to quit the music business and focus on their other activities (mainly TV).

I suppose the breakup was inevitable after all the talk of 'turmoil' at Sony-BMG. It does seem to have affected distribution though, as the Zinman Mahler 5 didn't appear in the UK when it was expected. MDT say they have no release date for the disc but I was able to get it from Japan some time ago. Very much hope the Zinman cycle can be completed.

Whats the go for the Japanese side of the operations?? i thought JVC used to distribute/manufacture BMG product in Japan???
If Sony does reissue this material, I wouldn't be surprised if they release it on hybrid CD.

Sony Music Japan was not part of the original Sony BMG "merger".
