The Quartetto Italiano classic set of complete Beethoven String Quartets has recently be re-released by Philips as part of their "Originals" series. I'm surprised that they have allowed Pentatone access to these recordings. The good news is that Pentatone plans to eventually release the complete set.

There are many examples of this: at least most other RQRs are available on CD from Philips.
Everest CDs are available from one company, 2 disc sets (DVD-A/V+CD) from another. Anthony Collins' Sibelius is to be had on Beulah and Autralian Eloquence, recordings are available on Testament and EMI simultaneously and so on and so forth.

I'm thrilled to hear this, but rather surprised that Pantaman hasn't clued us in when the topic has come up several times before!

I will acquire this without hesitation, but dare I hope for an opus 131 to follow?

Some weeks ago I sent Pentatone an e-mail asking if they planned to issue all recordings in the set. The answer I received was yes.

Pentatone only issues discs of the Philips Quad recordings. This is well known. Thus it all depends on how many of the Beethoven Quartets were recorded in 4 channel.

In case I have not been 100% clear, this is the situation: We have Op 59 complete plus Op 18 No 6 (which will be used as filler on the first release (with Rasumovsky 1). All the rest is not quad.
best, PentaMan

The F major Rasumosky (59/1) is a glorious performance and not to be missed in my opinion. I already have the entire set on RBCD and rate them all very highly so will be getting as many as I can on SACD. What a shame they weren't all produced in Quad. I presume there is no chance of them all coming out as SACDs, regardless? (I only have a stereo system anyway).
I'd love to see the Ravel and Debussy released as an SACD on Pentatone, too, but they were part of the Japanese Universal SACD releases -- which I never got involved with -- so I'm wondering whether another, unrelated release would be considereed economically viable. I guess it will be matter of waiting and seeing.
