Living Stereo recordings to be issued on SHM-CD will cost almost twice as much as those released on SACD. Obviously, people in Japan are prepared to spend quite a lot of money for archival purposes.

That's nothing new. The Living Stereo SACDs are sold at midprice ($10-12), while SHM CDs are in the price range of other upmarket audiophile CDs (such as XRCDs).

Least we forget, the American dollar, at present, pales in comparison to the yen. But I find it unconscionable, that with so many unreleased, choice living stereos (jazz, mancini and pop, included) that SONY Japan would release ANY living stereo title on a non-sacd format, especially with so many wonderful SACD capable players still being produced to this day. I am glad that Vinyl is making a resurgence and I agree with the statement that 30 years after the digital revolution, it takes a very expensive player to reproduce what a $2000 turntable can achieve. SHM-CD is merely a bandaid, is no higher resolution than 16/44.1 and SACD has proved, that when done right, can achieve the resolution of a good turntable and why has SONY forsaken its loyal followers in our time of need? What's next, SHM-BLU-RAY??????????

Why bother with expensive remastering when there's suckers out there prepared to pay for the same old bits on new plastic?

This thread needs a rest.

Zeus, I agree that this thread needs a long rest. But I blamed SONY for releasing Living Stereos on SHM-CD when RCA (who has nothing to do with SONY Japan) is the culprit and since the recent break-up of SONY/BMG, is this RCA's way of flipping Sony the bird (by abandoning their wonderful and popular Living Stereo SACD releases and DEFECTING to SHM-CD?)

I see you are still confused about Japanese releases.
