What's going on here? I already have this, as the cover is identical, with its previous serial number-- XSGL1. That SACD is a hybrid multichannel release, so it isn't like the Sony Bernstein Mahler 1 which was a single layer stereo release but reissued as a hybrid.

My records show that the earlier release was single layer.

"0 of 0 recommend this SA-CD. Would you recommend it?" (previous release).

Would you?

--I'll probably order this disc, since I love gamelan (I'm hearing a live gamelan this evening and again on Sunday).

The copy I have is NOT hybrid and has a higher list price (¥3200 pre tax). The release date for mine is 02.07.24 and the UPC is 4580128890036.
Not the first time I snatched up a Sony non-hybrid disc only to find a hybrid release coming out a few months after my purchase (Bitches Brew comes to mind).

Sorry, the earlier release WASN'T a hybrid, but a single layer. The packaging was very deceptive, not stipulating it was a single layer disc unless it said so only in Japanese.

I have plenty of gamelan CDs, but this SACD is by far the best gamelan recording of the lot-- it reproduces that high frequency 'shimmer' of clashing harmonics which you hear live when sitting relatively close to the instrument.
There are several vocal tracks, and these are presented at higher volume levels than the purely instrumental works, so one has to ratchet the volume control up and down.
