Thanks nickc, Not the most obvious music to showcase surround sound :) Anyone out there tried it yet? The Amazon reviews are mixed. Graham

Hi Graham Discussing the Title in the Thread header? Yep Ive had it a few days and think the surround is certainly better on the last track (Chorus) I notice that their were two recording dates and it appears to me that the final movement is sonically different in stereo. The chorus seems in front of the Orchestra. I think you will know my comments about showcasing surround sound but in this case a poor system may well get overloaded in stereo in parts. Its such a huge work and complicated that I doubt if a few weeks is long enough to get an understanding. Ive now actualy disected something from the notes that help.
As regards Amazon Reviews. Our sa-cd review basics are Perforance and sonics. The Amazon reviews also consider the work itself.Very few consider sonics or as sacds. I would also add, starting a flame war again, that West of the Pond reviewers on Amazon on new works or recordings are looking at the theatrical presentation more than historical musical interpretaions.ie Comments the Bass drum on the first movement of Mahlers first symphony isnt prominent on my .1 subwoofer? wow. This is fairly significant when a New Work comes on the scene and is much more relevant to Pop issues etc.IMO.

Hi Dave Glad you have brought us back to the subject of the thread:) I have not tried the stereo layer of this disc but will do so and see if I notice the effect you observed.
Re. Amazon reviews: I don't think that the sort of comments you refer to are solely confined to reviewers in the USA. Hope you have your asbestos suit ready.
