Hi,

this is question for those who think that multichannel has no benefits over stereo playback.

best regards

Esa

The thread title and the question quite contradict each other.
What about if I listen strictly to stereo SACD only because of space constraints and cost, but at the same time I'm finding multichannel playback more appealing, whenever I have the possibility to listen to it? :)

I would NEVER say Multichannel has no advantages over Stereo.

I listen strictly to 2-channel SACD because that's the equipment I have. I don't wish to lug around the extra speakers and heavier receiver. Besides buying 3 more matching Magnepan speakers would be unreasonable for my budget.

I'm impressed with Hybrid SACD's versatility by offering three layers for three different types of consumers (RBCD, 2-channel DSD, and Multi-channel DSD).

Stereo only: YES
Stereo SACD only: NO (I also listen to CDs, LPs, DVDs, etc)

Stereo Only due to space & cost constraints.

I wouldn't say that "multichannel has no benefits...". Just because I personally haven't heard a mch system that impressed me doesn't mean that the technology doesn't "benefit" some listeners - obviously it does. But wherever there are benefits there are also costs, and these have to be weighed against each other.

2 channel here only....not enough room (or money) to create a true MC rig...if I need to listen to an SACD in MC, I have a good friend who has a killer MC rig...

Cheers,

This is actually a pretty good idea for a topic. As an SA-CD listener, I listen to Multichannel exclusively. However, I do recognize that Stereo SA-CD must have something to offer. I certainly realize that it is definitely superior to RBCD. I am going to take some time here soon and listen to some SA-CDs in stereo only and see if there are advantages to it over Multichannel. I don't know if this will change my preference for Multichannel, but I think it would be interesting to listen to some SA-CDs in stereo, since I have been a devoted Multichannel fan since I began listening. I will come back and report my findings. May be a while before I do though.
