Again I don't know yet what "DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1" means but if it is only the same stuff as the current DTS on a regular DVD, then what is the point? The idea of a Hi Rez picture is OK, but for me the BENEFIT of Blu-Ray would be hi rez sound in 5 channels. If that is not forthcoming, then I have to say again "What is the point?" or "Who cares?"
Hi Windsurfer I think Dolby True HD and DTS - MA are 96/24 PCM,up to 8 channels. No DSD in Blu-Ray unfortunately. N

Hi nick!
Finally prompted to do a little research on my own, ran across this:
http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=760714
which to me at least looks a little grim. A lot of variability but most is 24 Bit/48 Khz but there are also a few titles available at 24/96. I wonder what happened to the 24/384khz that (I think) was first announced?

The highest sampling rate supported I believe is 192kHz. As such, it offers little advantage over SA-CD if all you're concerned about is audio quality. Time will tell if the install base of players makes it viable for producers of surround audio only or whether the discs get relegated to bins with "No Video!" warnings like you saw with DVD-A.

I would say that at 384 kHz it would have been (maybe) comparable, certainly no advantage, but not at 192 - basing this on the notion I read somewhere - and I think it was a thread here - that 384 kHz puts the sampling rate just high enough above the limits of human hearing that "brick wall" filters are not necessary. I think that idea may have been expressed in a thread here on DXD.
