I am just wondering about new non-classical SACDs: I am not seeing too
many jazz, pop etc being produced out there lately- I mean even less than the normal-which was not very many to begin with. Have things slowed to a drizzle?
I know we have the Genesis releases, but not much besides. Even the latest news items on this site are more than a few months old. The classical music releases seem to be going strong, especially with teh new Japanese releases, but what about the other genres-is there anything to report???

Yes, what you suggest is absolutely correct. However, there is still a rich source of past titles to choose thanks to the world wide web. I buy on average 1 SACD a week, pretty much all non-classical, and waht I want rather than buying them for the sake of SACD. It's just knowing where to look so you don't pay extortionate prices.

As for BRAND new non-classicals I fear the market is pretty much dead. In fact I know so.

As far as jazz goes, not much has been released last year, apart from several Chesky "New York Sessions" discs, a few MFSL reissues from the Fantasy catalog, and a couple of Herbie Hancock/V.S.O.P. JSACDs.

I wouldn't read too much into this. It just means that I don't often get around to it, and labels haven't cottoned on to the fact that they can email me press releases for posting as news. If it's newsworthy and in a form ready for posting, I'll post it!

Thanks for the replies...I guess it is just a matter of ordering the old from the many choices available on the web...a shame though because I still hold on to the hope of coming across something new in a music store as I go through their Jazz collection, for example. I guess I am a bit old fashioned that way :)

we may also find a Cure album will be released this year on SACD:

He (Smith) says "Disintegration" will feature a bonus disc of new remixes, and that he's pushing for "Wish" to include a new 5.1 audio mix.

"People seem to want to kill that off, which is a shame," he says of that format. "It's far and away the most fantastic way of listening to music."

In that case, a CD+DVD set seems more likely, and if we are lucky, it will be a hybrid SACD + DVD set.

Today, releasing a multichannel mix on SACD only means a much too small number of SACD player owners will be able to listen to them, as less and less affordable SACD-capable players are being put on the market.

So for the 5.1-remix of a pop album, a DVD seems mandatory to me, but it lessens the relevance of the SACD format, as labels may ignore the hi-rez factor and think that a CD+DVD package fulfills all the consumer's needs.

Or it could be a Blu Ray high-res release. Doubt it though.
