It seems we will wait for the 2008 to have the 5000th SACD title...

Zeus: any more titles lying around waiting to be added?

Post by Julien December 31, 2007 (4 of 10)
There are more than 5000, maybe a few hundreds more, that Zeus either is not aware of or didn't get the time or enough information about to put on the site.

I would be more worried if theres was not a 5000th title.
We already know by some of the future plans that there are quite a few to be
added.
If Zeus wants to add the last few to make the 5000 before the New Year.
I pressume it will be in the Oz time Zone.Its up to him.Im quite happy if he is out celebrating somewhere.Hes done a great job.
Q.Does the 5000th matter?
A.No, If its an organ transcription of Mahlers Symphony number blah.
Q.Is it more important to havemore than 5000 reviews.
A.Yes.
Q.Are people going to be MORE positive on this site.
A.I hope so.
Q.Should the items not released be deleted?
A.Why Not.It makes the "total" more meaningful.
Q.Shall we have a vote on whether 5000 matters.
A.Only if it doesnt lead toi another petition.
Happy New Year to all HiRez Music listeners.Vinyl sacd dvda etc.

1) A. I think it is an important goal for the system and its future.
2) A. I don't know what you want to say. My question was extremely simpler than your thoughts.

And now happy New Year to SACD listeners and fans, above all because I think a site with "sa-cd.net" name is dedicated mainly to them...

I sometimes find it wise not to try too hard to understand what Raffels is saying. But I'm Frenchie. LOL

Hey, I don't understand raffells all the time either. But this time I not only understand but agree whole-heartedly with his viewpoint(s):

RE NUMBER OF RELEASES (released or unreleased):
The total number is the least of my concerns. In fact I am not concerned at all, in the sense of 'worried'. Why? Because I will never have an interest in the majority of releases, and the number of releases which do interest me is already larger than I am likely to buy in any given lifetime. Some discs are so obviouly desirable that I pre-order them, but most can sit and age gracefully on my Wish List like young wines in a cask. I do have a few fond hopes for certain music appearing in SACD, and a few disappointments. In brief, I am deliriously happy with the current selection of music on SACD. Thank you, all you excellent labels, recording engineers and fidelity-friendly musicians!

RE MORE REVIEWS
Raffells point is a good one. Mea culpa, I expect the recording industry to work industriously to keep me entertained, but I myself am too lazy to review everything which deserves such treatment (I do have one review in progress: publishing date Jan. 14 for historical reasons).

RE ATTITUDE
As noted above, I don't echo the Doom and Gloom view of SACD's past, present or future. But I do detect a slump in the collective spirit here. At first I thought it was the summer slow season, but now it is obvious that we are beginning to bore one another. Too much same-old same-old. I started the BOOKS thread in hope of tapping into a new topic for the old gang to have a kick at. On the plus side, I note more posting on non-classical music, which might be our salvation. Thanks people.

NEW YEAR'S WISHES
Selfishly I will wish for
(1) vol. 3 of the Bartók Quartets by Párkányí*;
(2) more Beethoven by the Lindsay Quartet;
(3) more anything by the Kocian Quartet.

And for all of us I wish for
(1) a few more excellent recordings of interesting music;
(2) fewer mediocre recordings of over-recorded music;
(3) more shared experiences (reviews).
___________
*I was listening with acute pleasure to the first 2 volumes last night -- wonderful playing, amazing sound).

Just crunched some numbers based on those provided at this site....

Total number of SACD added

2004 - 891 (excluding January 2004)
2005 - 806
2006 - 757

As of 10:16PM West Coast US time, the total number of titles listed at this site is 4,999. For 2007, a total 744 new titles were added.

Not too shabby for a "dying" format.

True, but I would not be too happy if the value of my shares was moving in that direction :)
