I'm tired of waiting for the rest of the Dire Straits catalogue to appear on SACD (a diplomatic way of saying I've basically given up hope). Now the question I face: should I buy the remastered RBCDs or rather hunt down copies of earlier releases? Did these reissues fall prey to the loudness war or are they the best versions I'll be able to get?

Any clue as to where I may find information about such comparisons?

I'll probably start with 'Love Over Gold'.

Stephen does your machine play HDCD If so there are a number of Dire Straits/Knopfler HDCD issues.
