Yes, I got the SACD 11th from caiman via amazon. Amazon.uk sent me the RBCD version first despite the cover pic being the SACD, but refunded cost and postage.

Interesting concert last night in the big smoke; Kissin playing the Schumann concerto (& a ravishing encore - Widmung arr Liszt) followed by Sibelius 1 receiving a very intense performance from the LSO & Davis. All of this was recorded - presumably Sibelius for LSO Live but then I thought, would SonyBMG really use the same recording team? Does this mean that Kissin is "surplus to requirements" at SonyBMG?

If so, there is a huge opportunity to get straight on the phone and start recording in the sound that he (& we) deserve in repertoire that he actually seems to enjoy playing (namely Liszt, Prokofiev & Rachmaninov to start with). Could this be Pentatone's star pianist? One can dream...

Some interesting forthcoming releases can be found on the HMV Japan website.

They include two SACDs featuring Mahler's Lied von der Erde, conducted by Nicol Matt and Christian Arming, respectively (no soloists are given). A new recording of Mahler's First Symphony with David Zinman conducting the Tonhalle Orchestra will be released by RCA on Oct. 17. These come on top of all the other new Mahler releases (Fischer, Neumann, Macal, Eschenbach, Tilson-Thomas).

For those who think that Mahler is not the be-all and end-all of orchestral music two other releases will be of special interest: a new recording of Bruckner's Seventh Symphony with the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic under Jaap van Zweden (coming in the wake of the Fourth and to be released by Exton on Oct. 25) and the first SACD with the great Czech pianist Ivan Moravec (accompanied by the Czech Philharmonic under Vaclav Neumann). This disc, to be released by Columbia Music Entertainment on Nov. 22, features Schumann's Piano Concerto and Franck's Symphonic Variations.

I hope that this is only the beginning and that, for example, Moravec's recordings of Brahms' Piano Concertos with the Czech Philharmonic under Jiri Behlolavek will also make their way onto SACD.

Update to my earlier post - Kissin now has a relationship with EMI Classics and this was recorded for them. EMI have used the same microphone set-up as LSO Live so it will be interesting if a surround release is made available (one can hope for SACD but knowing how reluctant EMI is on these things...)

I have these on a Supraphon CD, coupled with a splendid 1987 performance of Kinderszenen. The works were recorded in Prague in 1976. Very fine performances which perhaps didn't get the attention they deserved.

2. Kissin. Perhaps EMI can give him an artistic kick in the pants. He and Pletnev haven't produced the range of great interpretations their earlier hype and talent presaged. The interesting aspect now is, for this great 'major' called Sony/BMG, where are their pianists, apart from Murray Perahia, who hasn't done much for the past 3 years? What happened to Volodos? Sony/BMG pianists are rather like Osama : occasional appearances but you can't tell whether they are still alive or dead.

Indeed. I really wish he would come out with more Rachmaninoff. His current recital series is Schubert, which woudn't be bad either. While looking at his other touring, I noticed Pletnevs schedule, which has him touring the Grieg Piano Concerto with Dutoit and Philharmonia. Would love to hear that recorded. For those of you in Holland, look for VOlodos playing Rach 3 with Pletnev / Concertgebouw.
