Good question, I have this disc and certainly enjoy its music...

But I begin to detect an unforseen trend here: Several on this thread have objected to performers making very direct eye-contact with the viewer. That is emphatically the case with Windsurfer and the Follesø photo, but perhaps also Claude's unease with Mustonen -- and I will guess that contributes to Edvin's dislike of Jablonski's pensive pose.

How does this 2L cover make you feel?

Is this better?

It looks like he feels imprisoned by his French horn. Perhaps it's time to move in a different career direction...

I think your comments about immediate, direct eye contact are spot-on. I'm not sure who the marketing people are here, but some people we all want to look at - Julia Fischer, for example. Some, we don't - like many posted on this thread.

I think with the 2L label it is L and L -- and they have every right to put extraordinary cover art on their extraordinary discs. I must confess "they made me look" with the Follesø, and if the photo had not caught my attention I might not have discovered the wonderful music-making on that disc. So thank you 2L, keep up the eccentricities.

On the other hand, I am vaguely grateful to Laura St John's art director for putting such a clear warning on her products.

As of yet there is no mention of "cover art" on the SACD itself.

Clearly the label Caro Mitis (/alltitles/170) puts much effort into making something that is different while nice for each SACD.

Just open your various SACD jewel cases and see for yourself.

Although I nominated one title, I must say that I don't care much about cover art (especially for classical releases), and I would buy SACDs even if they were sold in white paper sleeves.

This is in fact a 2005 release, but holds its own against this year's entries. It's a Japanese release; something may have been lost in the translation.
