Ni Hao.
This looks Culturally Revolutionary, or at least a Great Leap Forward.

Which Chinese language is it sung in? The official language is Mandarin, which is not necessarily the same language in pronunciation as the mainly Tang dynasty poems which Bethge translated.

Correct.
It is sung in Cantonese, which is supposed to be the closest dialect to the original poems.

I'm going to feel bad if I don't buy it...

Geohominid's review seems pretty conclusive - this Mahler recording was a flawed enterprise. A pity, as Lan Shui and his Singapore band were superb in Seascapes. Full marks to BIS for trying though - they can't be expected to get it right every time!

I'd like to check out some reviews from China (in English). Chandos has a very successful series of opera in English for the English speaking market, and I have bought some Fricsay conducted operas with librettos translated into German for the German language market.
