Julien,

I have something called a cardDeluxe which I read first read about in stereophile maybe 5 yrs ago. It will record 24/96 from an analog stream.

With this in conjunction with my Goland Audio DVD Creator software I can make 24/96 DVD copies of my LPs should I desire.

I should mention that the cardDeluxe is only useful with an outside source. It will record and playback in high quality sound, but it won't take something from inside the computer like an internet download directly, you have to connect it externally to the sound card that came with your computer (or a replacement of that). Mine is connected to the audio out of the computer's sound card - where the connection to the powered speakers were. The powered speakers are then connected to the audio out of the cardDeluxe.

So I actually am wondering about whether I can upgrade the soundcard that came with my computer so that internet downloads, internet radio (BBC - Radio 3, Radio Suisse Romande, etc) will sound better. About internet radio sounding better, my Chinese fortune teller, FAT CHANCE says ...

I’m somewhat confused by that statement. Do you mean that you cannot make your music player use the cardDeluxe? If so, I don’t think a hardware upgrade will make any difference. Instead you should tell the player that it should use the cardDeluxe for audio output. If that’s not possible, it probably uses the operating system’s default sound card, so you should change this setting.

This should normally be sufficient, but sometimes devices on the motherboard interferes with added devices. A workaround that may work is to disable the device of same type as the added device in the PC BIOS, in this case disable the on-board sound device. Some BIOS are very restricted in what you can do so disabling the on-board sound device in the operating system (Device Manager in MS Windows) may be another option to try.
