I am reluctant to post a revew on this because it may remove the excellent Amazon review of this amazing disc.So I will add this in discussion only.
This is a more recent recording than the other disc of later symphonies and sounds very asnalogue like..Its not quiteas set back as that other recording.
I was apprehensive of what to expect on this original early work (no2) by this composer and its first recording of revised sym(3).38 minutes
Its superb..ain to a number of composers in style that are benchmark Romantics.ie Tchaikovsky,R Strauss,Lizst and occasionally reminiscent of Scriabin amongst others, this is beatifully crafted. The sopranos entry is a bit of a shock in the last movement and she is certainly a powerfull singer.
Mahlers 4th came to mind at one stage but this is less a childs view of heavan,I would suggest more earthly pleasures are conjured up...great finale.
The 3rd symphony starts as a piano concerto and is mostly that.Grieg and Tchaikovskys 3rd come to mind but always this is also clearly an individual work and composer of whom we need more releases in this series..Come to think of it,we need more of his compatriots symphonies as well..
Considering this composers work almost became extinct this is a certain "buy" and hopefully look forward to more .
PS for hifi enthusiasts rather than musical lovers,
I forgot to mention prior to the finale of sym 3 has a wordless chorus that builds up ust before the dramatic piano climax which is as good as you could hope for.

If someone posts a review on this site then it automatically removes any Amazon review that Zeus placed there as a stop-gap.

Scott Morrison is an excellent reviewer. Really knows his stuff. I've been in other chatrooms where it is evident that he knows what he is talking about.

Yeah, I've read some of his reviews and I wonder if he doesn't have sacd equipment - and if he does, why he doesn't post here!

I have this disc BTW and I really like it! I wouldn't say that it is for hi-fi enthusiasts more than music lovers at all! I would admit that Langgaard's style may seem a little foreign to some but it was no big hurtle for me to overcome. My reactions to his music have been more along the lines of "cool" and "way cool" - not anything derogatory.

Please re read the post script.
This is seperated from the rest of the comments and discussion.?
If you have the disc and have played it, you will know what was meant...

OK, I re-read the postscipt and I suspect I would have understood better had there not been a line break between the comma and the word "I". It misled me regarding exactly what you did mean. I myself have been (unfortunately) too concerned with other things to write my impressions of this very fine disc but I would have expressed myself a little differently regarding the wordless chorus. I think it is an exquisite piece of writing.
