I doubt you bothered to read what I said so here it is repeated...

Of course you guys in the US will be more aware of their prowess than us as indeed we are of orchestra's like the Bournemouth Symphony in the UK, which will be relatively unknown there.

You have to accept that news and reputation do not travel that far or fast even in our interconnected age quite possibly through selective deafness?

Quite well aware of the Bournemouth SO and the work conductors like Constantin Silvestri did there to raise that orchestra up to national and international prominence. Just don't assume we Yanks don't know anything about the orchestras there and how good some of them can be. Similarly, I would hope that you Brits would do a bit more than just look to the New Yorks, the Chicagos, the Bostons, and the Clevelands, for example, to realize that there are orchestras in the US that can match their quality and more. Orchestras like the Seattle, the Pittsburgh, and the Minnesota to name a few.

This Brit personally rates most of those non-"major" US orchestras at least as higly as the "majors".

I just enjoyed a wonderful opening night concert tonight with Sharon Bezaly at the Musica Viva Festival here in Sydney ... also broadcast live on ABC. Has bissie made the trip downunder too?

The dying Jew wakes up just before he is going and says in a very weak voice: Is my wife Rachel here? - Yes. Is my son David here? - Yes, Father. Is my daughter Rebecca here? - Yes, Father.

(shouting): well, who the hell is minding the shop then???????

Unfortunately I am minding the shop, while Sharon and Daniel are down under. I envy them and would have liked to see you.

bissie:

Is Elgar: Symphony No. 2 - Oramo the start of an Elgar series, or just a one-off? Hopefully, there will be more, although I realize British music is not exactly Bis' thing.

Thanks

OK, folks,

May New SACD:s out.
Don't miss Frank Peter Zimmermann's Hindemith.
Or Yevgeny Sudbin's Rach 1. Just don't.

Best - Robert

Got both of them in the mail yesterday from US distributor. Have had one listen to the Rachmaninov. First takeaway: very exciting performances (both piano concerto and symphony). Hope to get to the Hindemith tonight.
