Hello,
I just read on the 2008-2009 planning of my town's orchester (Orchestre national de LILLE), that BIS label will record the two symphonies of WALTON with this orchester. Do you know the conductor (J.C. Casadesus ?) and if that will be SACD releases ?
all the best - Dominique
Cher Dominique,
yes, I am able to confirm that BIS will be recording the 2 symphonies by William Walton with "your" orchestra, and, yes, it will be a surround recording aimed for release on SACD.
We are looking forward to this - best - Robert

Robert,
A couple of weeks ago I had the pleasure to attend what must have been the second performance of Kalevi Aho's new Oboe Concerto. What a marvelous piece! In the concerto Aho enjoyably mingled Arabic and African flavors with a more European taste. It certainly was one of those rare pieces of contemporary music that make you to want to relisten to them right away. So, I hope you have plans to record and release it on SACD soon.

I certainly am in the market for any new Aho on SACD!

Please, Robert, confirm or deny: Schmidt Symphonies?
Thanks, Bret

Actually Robert, a complete set of Schmidt symphonies would be really really nice!
It would be especially nice if you could equal the string sound on Tchaikovsky symphonies issued thus far (1,2,5&6) There is something very special about those four discs. Schmidt needs superior string sound!
I would get even more excited about that than about more Aho and I really would like more Aho.

A BIS production of those symphonies on SACD? That would be REALLY wonderful! I completely agree, Schmidt needs an outstanding orchestra and a gorgeous recording. Luckily, the producer teams at BIS will be able to provide just that!

Dear Bret,
you got me all confused here. I immediately thought of the Danish composer and conductor Ole Schmidt, whose "Oresund"-Symphony we have recorded (the Symphony that was composed for the inauguration the bridge between Sweden and Denmark - BIS 672) and I have taken my good time in order to investigate what, if any, other symphonies he might have. Now, of course, I realize that you mean Franz S. Sorry, we have no plans for those, but that doesn't mean we cannot think about it.
Sorry to keep you waiting - Robert

The Handel Op6 Concerto Grosso set is one I'll buy even without waiting to read somebody's review. The Telarc SACD is only of half the set, since an earlier plain CD was released. Hence we won't get the complete set on Telarc SACD. At first I thought this was a Channel release, since this band have a Vivaldi concertos set on that label. It'll be interesting to compare the BIS recording to that Channel set if they have both been recorded in the same venue.
