Robert just trying to get my brain around the technology of these discs you will issuing in early 2008. Am I right in thinking you are saying you could get virtually all of the 4 cd set of Mendelssohn complete solo concertos (966/68) onto one single Stereo layer HD SACD? If so sounds very interesting I must admit I had not thought of this possibility.
It is likely so. The longest organ disc is 4:13'41. Orchestral music may fill up the disc space quicker, but still would be quite a lot of music.

Robert: Nothing like a little contest to perk up interest in your thread!
I was thinking Otaka Glazunov, but that was too short. Then I was thinking Wigglesworth Shostakovich (copyright?).
Oh well.
I hope the response restores your faith in these bargain sets. I didn't weigh in on the Bach Cantatas because I wasn't sold on the little bit of his Bach that I had heard. But I did buy the Bach Organ works, mainly because I'm not into them enough to plop down full price anywhere, but I like being able to listen to a little every once in a while. I probably would end up doing the same for Bach Cantatas. (I'm already collecting the Gardiner series, and have been falling in love with the music. An alternative would be nice, but I'm just not wealthy enough to justify the extra outlay.) I definitely would buy a Gade or Glazunov set!
A nice Mendelssohn Concerto set will be most welcome!

Dear Steven,
well, I have to say that yours is among the first - and only - replies to my question, whether a single-layer SACD Stereo set of the Cantatas would be interesting. Thus I took it to be not interesting.
Robert,
Forgive the many comments and questions, as there have been several topics raised in which I have much interest.
Suzuki Bach Cantatas:
Like Steven, I have purchased all of Suzuki's Bach Cantatas series issued on SACD (well almost, having ordered vols. 36 and 37 last Sunday) and have considered back filling the 27 RBCD vols. from time to time. I have delayed in the hope that they would be reissued as box sets. I would be very interested in purchasing them as single-layer SACDs.
Brautigam Beethoven:
I have enjoyed this series immensely. I can hardly wait for the next volume. I am very pleased to hear he has recorded, and you will be releasing, the Beethoven piano concertos. Who transcribed the violin concerto for piano? Will Mr. Brautigam be recording piano concertos 2 and 5 as well?
Brautigam Mozart:
Any plans for Mr. Brautgam to record the Mozart piano concertos? I thought your recording of the concertos for two and three pianos was terrific.
Sampson Purcell (SACD-1536):
Will this recording be released in the US? Qualiton still has not listed this recording on its website.

dear bissie, I'm pretty sure that both I and, certainly, my ex-partner brenda, responded to your earlier post re a set of SACDs of the Bach cantatas 1-27. In fact, from memory, i think it was brenda who originally asked if it was possible. So mark us down for two copies of the set if you could ever release it. Not interested in the Bratigam, but let me know if he ever records for you on a proper piano. cheers, paul s

However, we have found some exceedingly good candidates for the same treatment and we will shortly be releasing 2 single-layer SACDs in Stereo, which, by pure and good chance, both will contain exactly the 256 minutes 0 seconds theoretically possible, both having very interesting and complete compilations of great music by the same composer. You'll see in January what it is. A little Prize given to the one, who can figure out what it will be. www.bis.se could help you. To do this with Sibelius (please surmise from this that the above aren't Sibelius) isn't, as yet, feasible. Reason: copyrights. There are rules that a disc can only contain 80 minutes of copyrighted material, paying 100% of copyright costs. Should the minutage exceed this, the copyright payable would increase pro rata temporis. That means that a single-layer SACD with, say, 240 minutes of Sibelius would cost 3 times normal copyright. This makes it quite impossible to sell such a disc for anything like the normal SACD price, let alone CD, let alone even more giving a discount, like the Bach organ works. Sorry, that is out of my hands. Of couse I could sell it for a premium, but then the big idea is somehow lost. No, so far this treatment will have to be restricted to PD music. If the January experiment turns up roses, we have scores of possible candidates for the same treatment in the future.
Best - Robert
Could the second one be the Schubert - Complete Chamber Music for Piano and Strings (521/24)? or the Mendelssohn - Complete String Symphonies (938/40)?

LvB VC: The transcriber listened (at least when he was younger) to the name Beethoven, Ludwig van.
Yes, he will.
Mozart: after having finished 17 solo LvB SACD:s and 3 Concerto SACD:s, yes, why not. We musicians often have long lives.
Purcell: Oh yes. I thought it was there already. Will check in office.
Best - Robert
