First Murray Perahia:
I understand there was a recital with him in London not long ago, reviewed badly btw. If so this is the first time I have heard about Perahia returning to live performance after what I believe to be a long break (the second one) due to hand problems. Anyone who can update me/us with some info on Perahia? I remember he was to be involved in a Beethoven sonata project, with the creation of a new edition or something similar. This also was to be recorded if I remember correctly. I hold his recordings very high, like the Beethoven concertos with Haitink and the Bach recordings of later date. I hope for a quick and healthy return!

Secondly Vladimir Ashkenazy:
FYI - According to classic.com he will have to quit performing as a pianist due to finger problems. Arthritis is mentioned as a probable cause. It’s always sad when such things happen to great musicians. I truly love his performance of the Brahms pc 2 with Haitink. But I’m sure he will be busy conducting anyway.

Yeah, back in like 2001 or maybe as late as 2003, it was announced that he would record all the Beethoven Sonatas over a few year period. That seems to be dead.

A friend of mine saw Perahia in Bristol a couple of weeks ago and said he was in very fine form (presumably the same programme), so I am also hopeful that he feels well enough to return to the studio in the near future.
