as i leave the site, I just wanted to say thanks to all those fellow contributors who have become e-acquaintances in the past year, to those who have been kind enough to email me to express appreciation for my reviews and to all those who've engaged in stimulating dialogue when we've disagreed.

Sorry to see you go, Paul. I bought quite a few great Classical SACDs based on your reviews.

I'm sorry to see you go too, Paul. I found your obvious enthusiam for SACD refreshing and I'm sure your 'voice' is going to be missed here.

It's always sad when there are big egos that don't know how to play nicely with each other. I've said some pretty strong stuff in my reviews, but I wouldn't want to retract any of them. I've been part of some "conflicts" here and other places on the internet, but I always handle them professionally. There are always going to be people "who just don't get it", but I try to be intellectually honest with my writings.

I'm a little confused about what is the expected behavior in this forum and the reviews. Since when do NYTIMES (or other publications) reviewers of a Bway show or a live opera performance change their opinions in print after they have published their reviews just because an artist has complained? Is there a conflict of interest here if we, the SACD buyers, can't say what we really think about a SACD because the owner(s)/moderator(s) of this site have some vested personal interest in placating the artists/producers? I've seen wickedly negative reviews on Amazon, but if they have no swearing, they are left there by Amazon. Does Amazon have greater visibility than SA-CD.net? Probably, but Amazon isn't telling their consumers to change their reviews or write apologies.

I don't know what's at the heart of the controversy with Nucaleena, and I have to say that I'll really miss his writing, not only because he almost always agreed with me, but because he seemed to write from a POV that was similar to mine; so his reviews were valuable to my decision-making regarding SACD purchases. However, there are other reviewers here, who are quite prolific (!), whose views I have almost NEVER shared because they are musical laymen, who rarely write reviews with any particular knowledge or passion about the music. (But I do not mind that they give their reviews/ratings, please don't get me wrong.)

So, YES, it's a great loss to me that Paul is leaving us.

Unlike Amazon with a gazillion anonymous reviewers, I view this site as a community. And this community extends to all involved in the format, be they recording engineers, artists or even (as in this instance) reviewers on another site. From the outset, it has been my intention to instil here a respect for others, even if I sometimes don't live up to these lofty goals myself. I've seen other sites descend into slanging matches and am determined not to let it happen here. On the very few instances where I have stepped in, this has been initiated by others and my actions have been solely to maintain harmony. I uphold the right of everyone here to express the substance of their views ... be they positive or negative ... as, ironically, I did on Paul's behalf to the artist in question.

Could I have been more open in my handling of this? Sure. With everyone baying for blood and making accusations left, right and centre my immediate reaction was to close off further discussion and delete the initial thread, since the bogus review that started this had since been deleted. In retrospect I can see this was probably the wrong decision but there you go. I wish I hadn't had to deal with all this in the first place.

it is not easy running a site like this and i think you're doing an excellent job! at least no-one here has started questioning each other's parentage like they do on the aptly named audio asylum. keep up the good work
best wishes

The Asylum is a tame playpen when compared to the USNET .whatever groupes of ten years ago. Problem I find with the Asylum (which is on my "regular multiple daily stop site rotation")is the Hi-Rez forum is sort of like a "broken record" so to speak with respect to a lot of topics. I still think it is a valuable site to our community as we have rather limited open discussion groups available.

Sorry to see that You're leaving ,I enjoyed reading your reviews of classical music.Recently there has mainly been "pop crap" reviewed here.
Anyway, since I have just upgraded my LP system with the excellent Musical Fidelity X LPS V3 phono amp, some SACDs I initially liked a lot sound less than excellent when compared to the best LPs. Penatatone's Mahler 5 sounds dull and lifeless in comparison to Barbirolli's 1969 New Philarmonia set on EMI Lps,to mention just one recording of many, many where analogue sounds much, much better than any digital I have yet heard.
I will still buy the occasional SACD and possibly review here too.SACD is at least better than most RBCDs IMO.
All the best Chris

I am new here, and only have one review. I will miss nuccaleena, as he and a few others truly know classical music. As a cellist, I appreciate the perspective that knowledge brings to the table. I have not only purchased SACDs on nucalleenas opinions, but also suggested CDs.

I do not know what brought about his leaving, but I will say that I knew who nucaleena was within minutes of entering this forum. I would LOOK FOR his reviews, as the info helped me decide. I have even tried a composer I had previously shied away from because of him. Big loss, that's all I say.
