The SA-CD release rate has been largely unchanged for years ... which makes me wonder whether some people know how to use the resources this site provides (not just the forum) or not.

Stephen,

Usually people who write that are pop-rock listeners. For them classical music is appreciated by so few people that it's not even worth considering marketwise.
Anyway for pop-rock, SACD's not going to make many happy. Blu-Ray will have more appeal because of video and similar sound quality, but high-rez recordings will eventually take on for the pop-rock lovers who care about sound.

Jazz lovers like Claude and myself cannot be happy with SACD either.

I count myself among that target group but I'm far more swayed by surround sound than by high resolution.

For me I want high resolution surround pop/rock/jazz. I'm not format specific and if it takes Blu-ray for me to have it then I'm all for Blu-ray.

As am I - I have no problem putting on the 24/96 5.1 mix of the Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds disc and leaving the TV off.

I can't wait for studio albums to start coming out and some high resolution remasters of old DMB, Pearl Jam, Bob Marley, Tears For Fears, Pink Floyd, Zeppelin, Beatles, etc., albums to hit Blu-ray.

=D

.The possibilites of Blueray being the audio format of the future is diminishing by the day..Yes you may see some small limited activity in the near future but already its starting to fade as a film format which is what it was designed for.
The arguments FOR it can be easily argued against. It has almost NO siginificant take up for audio enthusiasts.

PERSONALLY I DONT THINK WE NEED BLUERAY CHEERLEADERING ON THIS SITE.
The comments you made in the above thread are too far removed from the subject.

Lets just stick to discussing sacds as per the guidelines.Otherwise the same flame wars and mode wars that ensue will quickly become a negative drain on the genuine sacd listeners on this forum.

Once the benefit of copying hirez sound or hidef video become a problem for the Blueray production side it will suddenly find a watermarking system to stop pirating etc.

McCartney has already made sure that the Beatles catelogue wont be released apparantly even has M Jacksons support according to rumours..
The same hope and rumour mongering was spread when sacd half took off.It was only a metter of time before " insert name" did an sacd album.

Didnt happen then and surround sound in Hirez hasnt taken off either.

While we've all been neurosing about the merits of high rez digital audio, Vinyl is making a major resurgence in the market. A lot of recording artists prefer the sound of vinyl, but as a surround afficionado, vinyl doesn't do it for me. Blue-Ray IS not making the hoped-for splash since the average Joe Public is content with upcoverting their existing dvd collection. I have been contenting myself with purchasing a lot of the new sacd classical releases but pine for the days of a new surround rock/pop recording. I spoke to a musicdirect rep recently and inquired why the Santana Abraxas album was a gold only stereo cd and not a multi-channel sacd and of course it came down to SONY not wanting to release the quad remaster (like the fantastic (but thin sounding) DTS surround REMIX OF ABRAXAS (16bit/44.1 3:1 compression scheme). I also have on backorder from musicdirect the 2L recording in blu-ray and SACD of Divertimenti, recorded in DXD..but that, I'm sure, will be the exception, rather than the rule. The future will be very interesting but we still need some big names on those shiny sacd's to elevate the SACD format out of the "niche" market!

That's a pretty unthought out and rude reply, yet in the same reply admonishes flaming.

Blu-ray is "already starting to fade as a film format"?

I'm sorry, but which planet are you writing from? Here on Earth Blu-ray through Q1/08 vs. Q1/07 was up 351%.

DVD is the only thing fading. If you're going to make stuff up and spread misinformation do it elsewhere. I'm passing on information I've attained from the new product development department at SonyBMG, not some wishful whims.

"Diminishing by the day" - yes, obviously you're not familiar with media as a whole period. When they HAVEN'T EVEN STARTED trying to push audio BD discs, how can the possibilities be diminishing by the day? Did CD just come out and take over as the "newest thing"? I didn't think so. Revenue streams are down in the music business as a whole, people don't have reasons to buy CD's anymore, they rarely offer anything you can't get in .flac from places like Waffles and WhatCD. You're living in 2020 with highsight if you think BD's future is diminishing by the day, meanwhile we're in 2008.

As for McCartney, he seemed quite content on Larry King discussing the high resolution 24/96 DVD-A release of Love and I can't find anywhere that McCartney or his PR department have made any such press release. Link?

What was the "hoped-for splash"?
DVD took 4-5 years to outsell VHS and 7 years to outrent it.
Blu-ray just passed its second birthday.
