Re. Monteverdi's review of this disc, - Aaron, I'd be very interested to hear your views on the success of the remastering of the original quadrophonic tapes. What are the surround characteristics of this SACD?

Post by pjorgenunes April 30, 2004 (2 of 57)
I've bought this sacd on amazon.com and received it just two days ago.

I must confirm (to be sure if mine is defective) with someone that has or have heard this sacd the following:

The beggining sounds great: organs on front channels, echo/reverbation on surround ones (I believe to reproduce the accoustics of the place of recording)

After the loud part of the beggining something very strange happens: the quitter part it's almost inaudible even at higher volumes. What I believe is that some organs (the surround ones) are just missing and I just ear the echo/reverbation on the front channels.

I assure (I've around 10 sacds) that my system is fine.

It seems that the main sound of one or two of the four organs it's not on my sacd. Do your copies have the same problem? It's not a problem?

If it's not a problem how in the world everybothy says on their reviews 5 stars out of 5?

Thanks in advance. This is urgent because if defective I must return it soon. If not I must sell it and place a 1 star review...

The line-notes said that this particular cathedral has four organs strategically placed in the cathedral. Each organ has its own console, then there is an additional master console, which controls all organs and can play theall four organs simultaneously.

I think our old EP must having fun playing his toy, letting the sound swirling around.

BTW, his playing was as always, exemplary! Performance 5, Sound 4

Th above has been "copy/paste"ed to my review file.

I have this SACD and can assure you that the four organs are placed equally in the four channels. My guess is that your copy is defective.

Kind regards.

Does anybody know the registration details of the four organs used in Freiburg Cathedral for this recording (it might have been on the original release/CD)? There is plenty of bass on this interesting SACD, but I'm not picking up the very deep bass that comes from organs with at least 32-feet pipes for these works.

I can't believe this disc has become so rare. It was available pretty much everywhere when it was in print. Does anyone have a copy they would be willing to sell?

I think THAT is the fate of many -if not all- SACDs : getting out of print and then no reprints :( A shame...
I bought my copy only about half a year ago at amazon.com. It's a nice listen (apart from the regular noises between riffs - is it Briggs turning on his chair to switch consoles or pulling registers?)

I think this is one of those 'rarest SACD title that most of us here have'.
