Some distributors leave much to be desired, in terms of customer service, yes?

Not BeArTon. I ordered this disc at the beginning of last week and had a note from the Head of BeArTon (Chef du Board) before the end of the week, apologising for slow service. It seems this disc is so popular that it has gone for a second pressing (but new discs are promised by this Friday). Bravo BeArTon!

You're right, they're excellent. I ordered this disc and it arrived within a week. The Royal Quartet appears on the latest BBC Music Mag cover disc, too.

Highly recommended: the Szymanowski in particular is magnificent, a gem of a quartet, with playing and recording of the highest order. The small print says the recording was mastered to DSD by Polyhymnia.

and BeArTon is the only source of this, right?

I bought something from them a few months ago and paid more for shipping than for the disc, and curiously, the disc was shipped from Austria, if I remember correctly! - but I see that it is likely to happen again, because I am a real sucker for well recorded well played chamber music!

I haven't seen them for sale anywhere else, not even at jpc.de. By UK standards these SACDs are mid-price.

Correct, this is explained on their website. There is enough english there to make purchase rather easy. I did have to jump through the creditcard verification service (again), which told me my purchase had failed -- but then I got confirmation etc etc, including the same-week apology which started this appreciative thread.

And the price is RIGHT (at least Polish-to-Canadian), so I ordered 2 discs.

More applause for BeArTon:

True to producer Marek Wieronski's promise, they had fresh-pressed copies of this sold-out performance from Sony-Austria by Friday, Sept. 1 -- and I had my copy on Sept. 8 via Registered Mail! Contrast that with the Schubert Oktett ordered May 13 from that multinational whose name begins with A....

The first disc is spinning now ["recorded in HD PCM", stereo & 5.0; I'll post first impressions soon. Judging by the first piece, they'll be impressive.]

Well, I got a different level of service - I wanted to order the Szymanowski orchestral SACD from Bearton, when I tried to register, the link in the e-mail they send merely opened their site with the message 'registration failed'. When I e-mailed them I got no response. So that's a sale they've lost, sadly.

Hi Alex,
I had similar problems some time ago but they were resolved by sending an email to Marek Wieronski directly (boss@bearton.pl) and giving him my credit card details. The discs arrived very quickly. Hope this helps.

Clicking on "Store" at the top right of http://www.bearton.pl/catalogue.php
gave me no problems.
