Is the SHM-SACD stereo better than the MCH of this older disc?

Thanks,
WPS

Never bothered playing the Stereo layer (why would you?) but it would have to be pretty good indeed to be better than the m/ch.

i have limited choice here considering the price difference with the single layer SHM-SACD. the out of print MCH SACD is double or more in the open market, and i have zip chance to return the disc if there is any issue with it. with the SHM-SACD being readily available via Amazon, i feel assured that they will replace defective disc if i purchase from them.

if i do opt for the mch sacd, i have to be darn sure it is superior, hence my original post.

for Sibelius, i can always have this as an alternative:

Sibelius, Prokofiev, Glazunov: Violin Concertos - Heifetz

not sure about Walton though

cheers,
wps

I think that both the m/ch recording and the performance itself are superior to other SACDs, even the wonderful Heifetz, of which I have fond memories. As for the Walton, I'm not generally a fan of his works but this did make me re-think my prejudices.

The Sibelius is absolutely wonderful even in plain stereo. Moreover she plays on Heifetz's violin and in clearly better sound than the early Living Stereo too.
Quite an interesting comparison to hear the same instrument in old and a bit dated analogue sound, compared to modern pure DSD.

I agree on the excellence of this release. I have listened to it only in stereo but the sound is still rich and natural. The performances are superb IMO as well.

The MCH is on its way.

My income is not able to catch up with all these escalating OOP SACDs.

Why aren't the record companies re-issue them?

Cheers,
WPS

I have the Mch version. Actually, I was on the fence as well... Mch or SHM-SACD??

Although I haven't heard it, I am sure the SHM-SACD is fine. But... If you love Mch as I do, I am sure you will be happy with your purchase. They did an excellent job engineering this one. The rears are used a bit more aggressively than some, so it is somewhat immersive. But.. The sound is natural. I am happy with my choice.
