I think the SHM-SACD is missing the multichannel layer.

That is a very good question, Claude. Does anyone know if the SHM-SACD is multi-channel? SA-CD.net does not say here: Sibelius, Walton: Violin Concertos - Suwanai, Oramo I don't want to pay $52.15 plus huge shipping for a stereo only SACD, expecially when the multi-channel version is so highly rated.

By definition/implication SHM-SACD chooses one of the areas on the SACD layer. One of the "rules" of SHM-SACD is no DST compression applied to the DSD data. There isnt enough room to hold both areas uncompressed, and since Japanese audio consumers typically do not have the inclination for multichannel, the multichannel goes. In theory you could have a multichannel only SHM disc but that would have a limited market and so far no such examples exist.

As seemingly every other SHM-SACD is stereo-only, I'd be extremely (pleasantly!) surprised.

I don't know any other mch SHM-SACDs. Maybe it's because the two Britten SACDs are first releases of the recordings, while the others are reissues.
Although the stated prices for the original SACD are unrealistic Amazon Marketplace listings, I wonder if it's the fact that it's the only SACD of the Walton concerto that makes this special. Many other OOP Universal SACDs are still going for regular prices.
